Medford's fine. It's a typical middle class Long Island town.

Soooo many people on this forum are scared of their own shadow

Medford has some really nice houses at affordable prices, but not worth it to me if you have to commute to NYC. I also read that the school system isn't as good as in surrounding areas, and the area doesn't have much development.

The Patchogue Medford school district looks pretty functional to me

This coming from the person who thinks Brentwood is an all around average LI town.

I looked at directions on Google, that's over 2 hours one way, and that's just to Penn

Who wants to do that until retirement

This is the typical reaction to medford. The problem is that Gordon Heights shares a zip code with Medford but not a school district or anything else. so Newsday reports crimes in Gordon Heights as Medford.

Medford has some huge houses .

yes that is Medford .

Also Dr Hynes is the superintendent of the school district. Read up on him if you do not know who he is. The only problem medford has is that its too far from nyc.

And there are parts of Medford that are not very desirable, despite large homes there

I was just going to comment re: Dr. Hynes. Pat-Med has probably got the best upper leadership of any district on Long Island these days.
