You can also try looking in Island Park. Its a small neighborhood right next to Oceanside.

Long Beach is another town close to Oceanside. This is close to the beach and there are a lot of rentals in this location.

Other areas that some people mentioned are:

Baldwin
Rockville Centre
Lynbrook
East Rockaway
Valley Stream
Merrick
Freeport

Feel free to Direct Message me if you would like some more information.

Island Park ... a small neighborhood, huh?

It may be small, but a neighborhood it ain't.

For those who may not be familiar with Island Park:

Island Park is a village (incorporated in 1926) in the southwest part of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Island Park in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Wreck Lead Channel and the Hamlet of Barnum Island; on the east by the Hamlet of Barnum Island; on the south by the Reynolds Channel; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Harbor Isle.

Island Park is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of places with the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the village: places that have an "Island Park, NY 11558" mailing address that are not in the Village of Island Park are in the Hamlet of Barnum Island and the Hamlet of Harbor Isle.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): Excellent Long Island Geographic Resource

For those who may not be familiar with Long Beach:

Long Beach is a city (chartered in 1922) located on Long Beach Island in the southwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the City of Long Beach is bordered on the north by Hewlett Bay and Reynolds Channel; on the east by the Hamlet of Lido Beach in the Town of Hempstead; on the south by the Atlantic Ocean; and, on the west by the Hamlet of East Atlantic Beach in the Town of Hempstead.

The City of Long Beach has a different border than does the "Long Beach, NY 11561" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Long Beach, NY 11561" mailing address and not be in the City of Long Beach): places that have a "Long Beach, NY 1561" mailing address that are not in the City of Long Beach are in the Hamlet of East Atlantic Beach and the Hamlet of Lido Beach, both of these hamlets are in the Town of Hempstead.

Which one would be the most ideal for a married couple in their 30's? We're looking for a quiet, safe neighborhood, with adequate parking and a short commute to Oceanside.

I'd appreciate any ideas.
Not only is Oceanside a great location to live, but it has a wonderful hospital. You should really love the job. I worked there for a time and it was a great experience.
Ive lived in Oceanside over 40 years, so I am very familiar with the area, the schools, doctors, shopping, etc. I would recommend it without hesitation.....as long as you are aware of the high property taxes. (I guess coming from CA it wont be a shocker!!)
Rockville Centre is also a great option.
Good Luck.

Oceanside is very nice. Rockville Centre is a good place too but the taxes are a killer. SOUTH I repeat SOUTH Hempstead is a small community that is in Rockville Centre school district with low taxes. If you contact any realtor in Rockville Centre they will know about South Hempstead. Good Luck I am assuming the hospital you will be working at is South Nassau???

While some parts of South Hempstead are in the Rockville Centre Union Free School District, other parts of South Hempstead are in the Baldwin Union Free School District.

For those who may not be familiar with South Hempstead:

South Hempstead is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central section of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of South Hempstead in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Hempstead; on the east by the Hamlet of Baldwin; on the south and west by the Village of Rockville Centre.

South Hempstead is one of those many villages and hamlet on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of South Hempstead have a "Hempstead, NY 11550", "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" and "Baldwin, NY 11510" mailing address.

The school system has a very good rating. When school lets out, you can see the kids are not ghetto maniacs running wild. The VS schools have had finalists in the big HS science contests too. VS has good programs for the arts, including a collaboration with American Ballet Theatre for students interested in dance.

I would not be afraid to recommend Valley Stream as a good place to rent.
Well, it may depend where in Valley Stream, the closer you are to the Queens county border the worse it gets. The area around the Green Acres Shopping Mall is shot as well.
