Default Venetian Shores, Lindenhurst

Morning everyone,

We are moving from Bayshore, we aren't exactly sure where we are going, but we did drive by Venetian Shores in Lindenhurst last night and I thought it was lovely. Can anyone tell me their thoughts on the area? I see the beach is nearby and thought that was great. Can anyone tell me how far the train station is from there? I work in the city.

Thanks in advance
Tina

For those who may not be familiar with Lindenhurst:

Lindenhurst is a village (incorporated in 1923) in the south part of the Town of Babylon, in the southwest part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Lindenhurst in the Town of Babylon is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst; on the east by the Hamlet of West Babylon; on the south by the Great South Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Copiague and the Hamlet of North Amityville.

The Village of Lindenhurst has a different border than does the "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address and not be in the Village of Lindenhurst and a place can have other than a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address and be in the Village of Lindenhurst): places that have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lindenhurst are in the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lindenhurst with a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

If the property is in the Vicinity of Venetian Boulevard, it would then appear that it may be in the Hamlet of West Babylon ("Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address), not in the Village of Lindenhurst.

For those who may not be familiar with West Babylon:

West Babylon is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central to southeast part of the Town of Babylon, in the southwest part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of West Babylon in the Town of Babylon is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Wyandanch; on the east by the Hamlet of North Babylon and the Village of Babylon; on the south by the Great South Bay; and, on the west by the Village of Lindenhurst and the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst.

The Hamlet of West Babylon has a different border than does the "West Babylon, NY 11704" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of West Babylon and a place can have other than a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of West Babylon): places that have a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of West Babylon are in the Village of Lindenhurst, the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst, the Hamlet of East Farmingdale, the Hamlet of Wyandanch, the Hamlet of North Babylon and the Village of Babylon; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of West Babylon with a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757", "Wyandanch, NY 11798", "North Babylon, NY 11703" and "Babylon, NY 11702" mailing address.

I moved from the Venetian Shores neighborhood in the past year and still miss it. It is a very nice little neighborhood; very convenient to stores, beaches and commuting to NYC (the train station is just about a mile up Delaware St. & the train schedule is great!). There is a wonderful small elementary school and the town has put a lot into Venetian Shores Park with the Beach Hut & the spray park. This neighborhhod is Lindenhurst, it's just outside of the village boundaries, which doesn't mean anything except you don't have to pay village property tax.

I live very close to there S of Montauk on a canal, I moved here 2 years ago and love it. You can't beat being so close to the water, it's great in the summer, and Lindy is a nice little town.

This confirms that the property is in the Hamlet of West Babylon: it's in that part of the Hamlet of West Babylon that has a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address. (In order to be in Lindenhurst, a property would have to be in the Village of Lindenhurst, not simply in the "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" ZIP code postal zone as the village and the postal zone that share the same name have different borders.)

Just a correction here as a Babylon Town resident.

Venetian Shores is in Lindenhurst, Zip Code 11757.

Simply checking the net will bring up a number of listings that say this. Indeed the Town of Babylon itself considers Venetian Shores to be in Lindenhurst, if more proof is needed check out "Venetian Shores Park" on the Babylon Town website.

Venetian Shores Park is excellent. Great vibe of family, beach, and Jimmy Buffet. I'd buy in the neighborhood no question.

Walter's map is pretty clear, Bergen Point through the Venetian Blvd peninsula is WB. Not a WB zip or schools, strange.

The map is incorrect. Bergen Point (and the golf course) is indeed West Babylon, Zip Code 11704. But Venetian Shores is on the other side of Santapoque Creek in Lindenhurst, Zip Code 11757. In addition, as you mentioned Venetian Shores is in the Lindenhurst School District.

What is confusing people is that when Lindenhurst village incorporated back in the 1920s --- not all of the postal district joined.

Again, google "Venetian Shores, Lindenhurst" and "Venetian Shores, West Babylon" and see the difference. Also check the Town of Babylon website.
