Default Sachem Elementary schools - how are they?

We're relocating here and we're looking to rent for a year to learn the area before buying. I saw a pretty good house for rent today that's only 4 miles from my husband's new office. It's in Lake Ronkonkoma and part of the Sachem school district.

My daughter is starting kindergarten in the fall and I was looking at Smithtown and 3 Village, but this house is really suitable for us and the rent is lower than similar rentals in those districts. I was just wondering if Sachem schools are pretty good also?

I just think it makes more sense to save some money when we're renting to have more money to put towards the home we eventually buy.

Thank you!

I don't live in the Sachem school district, but from what I've heard, Sachem is a good district. And your daughter is only going into kindergarten so unless she's got a burned out teacher, she'll be okay.

The elementary schools are fine. The high schools are pretty average.

For a typically developing child it is great. The HS are great too, they have a lot to offer. If you child needs any help or special needs that is another story. Very very hard to get appropriate services as of late.

Sachem's a solid district, no worries. Which street is the prospective rental located on? You don't have to give a house number of course, but I can give you an idea of the elementary school that your daughter would be going to.

It's on Brunswick between Sycamore and Washington. A neighbor told us it's right on the border between Gatelot and Cuyoga.

Thanks for any info!

I'm almost positive that's Cayuga- very decent school, and I think they have a new principal that is really good. My husband and I have friends in the Sachem school district, and they're happy with it. Good luck!
