Default Questions on Albertson & Williston Park in Nassau County

In search of Nassau neighborhoods with good school districts, we came across Albertson and Williston Park. These villages are in the Herricks school district and the homes seem to have high taxes. However, there appears to be still affordable cape houses on the market.
We were wondering if anyone is familiar with Albertson and Williston Park and can share some insight. What is the neighborhood like? Is it enthically segregated or people get along well with each other?

Some of the houses we have in mind are near Willis Ave. and is within walking distance to the train station. Is that an undesirable part of town?

Herricks High School has a good reputation, but there were not that many reviews on greatschools.net. If anyone can lend additional insight into the Herricks school system, please let us know.

Also our budget is around 550k. We were thinking of purchasing a cape, but the taxes seem incredibly high for such a small house in Albertson & Williston Park.

Our criteria is good school district, affordable homes, within 1 hour commute to midtown NYC, and walking distance to LIRR and walking access to local convience stores. There are family members who do not drive, thus we are bound by these constraints.

Based on the above criteria, if anyone has additional village recommendations in Nassau, please let me know.

Both are very nice towns with good schools. You do not get alot of house for your money and alittle too crowded for me but you can't go wrong there.

I would look at Merrick or Wantagh, get more house, but totally different feel. Good schools too. Houses are newer but alot of splits.

For those who may not be familiar with Albertson:

Albertson is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the center-south part of the Town of North Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Albertson in the Town of North Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Searingtown and the Hamlet of Roslyn Heights; on the east by the Hamlet of Roslyn Heights; on the south by the Hamlet of Williston Park; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Searingtown.

The Hamlet of Albertson has a different border than does the "Albertson, NY 11507" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have an "Albertson, NY 11507" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Albertson and a place can be in the Hamlet of Albertson and have other than an "Albertson, NY 11507" mailing address): places that have an "Albertson, NY 11507" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Albertson are in the Village of North Hills, the Hamlet of Roslyn Heights and the Hamlet of Searingtown; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Albertson that have a "Roslyn Heights, NY 11577" mailing address.

For those who may not be familiar with Williston Park:

Williston Park is a village (incorporated in 1926) in the center-south part of the Town of North Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Williston Park in the Town of North Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Albertson; on the east by the Village of East Williston; on the south by the Village of Mineola; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Herricks.

Williston Park is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where most of the places with the community name in their mailing address are not in the village: places that have a "Williston Park, NY 11596" mailing address that are not in the Village of Williston Park are in the Village of East Williston, the Hamlet of Roslyn Heights and the Village of Mineola.
