Another example of NEWSDAY mistaking the community name in a place's mailing address for the community in which that place is located:

GARDEN CITY: Assessor sued over tax move -- Crime, Law and Justice, Garden City -- Newsday.com (broken link)

In the opening paragraph, the article states, "A Garden City realty company has filed suit ... "

Located at 1000 Stewart Avenue, the former Endo manufacturing plant is in East Garden City (Garden City P.O.).

In other words, if you want to send a letter to the former Endo manufacturing plant, you would address this letter to "Garden City, NY"; however, if you want to actually go to the former Endo manufacturing plant, you would go to East Garden City.

It is important to note that East Garden City is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name as part of their mailing address.

For those who may not be familiar with East Garden City:

East Garden City is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northeast part of the Town of Hempstead, in the central part of Nassau County, along the Hempstead/North Hempstead town line

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of East Garden City in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Carle Place and the Village of Westbury in the Town of North Hempstead (the Hempstead/North Hempstead town line); on the east by the Hamlet of East Meadow; on the south by the Hamlet of Uniondale and the Village of Hempstead; and, on the west by the Village of Hempstead and the Village of Garden City.

East Garden City is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name as part of their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of East Garden City have a "Garden City, NY 11530", "Westbury, NY 11590", "Uniondale, NY 11553" and "Hempstead, NY 11550" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Hi there. We are in contract to purchase a home in GC. However, the title search revealed that the house does not have a permit to a connection to a sewer. The sellers insist that the house is connected to a sewer and does not have a cesspool. However, the sellers refuse to have the testing completed (at a couple of hundred dollars) to confirm that a connection exists. I have now learned that while 99% of the homes in GC are connected to the sewer system, there are rare instances where this issue has arisen. My question is, if there is no connection, how expensive is it to get connected? And, do you know of other instances where there has been no connection?

This is a thread about the Hamlet of East Garden City, not the Village of Garden City.

If the house you are in contract for is in the Village of Garden City, you should consider posting in the thread about a sewer connection in the Village of Garden City, or begin your own thread.

I'm sure it's possible, but very rare.

I would call here:

Incorporated Village of Garden City
Department of Public Works
351 Stewart Avenue
