I detect a note of sarcasm here. That being said, it takes capital to organize a business. Not all workers have the money and/or credit they need to acquire capital. Workers are free, in general, to leave their businesses and become employers. There are many things that may hold them back:
  1. Lack of sales skills (they may have great work skills but sales skills are needed to open or head a business;
  2. Lack of investable funds;
  3. Lack of access to credit;
  4. An aversion to personal liability, for start up credit or to guarantee leases or mortgage obligations;
  5. Age, i.e. being too young or too old.
The list goes on. People or companies need incentive to risk their assets in a business.

Totally agree. We should be paying corporations to work there, not get paid to work for them.

There is a billboard now in Times square that sarcastically thanks AOC for her work in turning off Amazon. Her twitter reply to it is: Few things effectively communicate the power we’ve built in fighting dark money & anti-worker policies like billionaire-funded groups blowing tons of cash on wack billboards (this one is funded by the Mercers).(PS fact that it’s in Times Sq tells you this isn’t for/by NYers.)

Her response validates Amazon not feeling the love for the union thing.

Love AOC's use of the phrase "wack billboards". Can't imagine what 'dark money & anti-worker policies' is all about. She's so woke she's sleepy.

My opinion it was the anticipated pushback from the NIMBYs that would forestall occupancy by possibly years.
Union membership (stats taken from WIKIpedia)

In 2013 there were 14.5 million members in the U.S., compared with 17.7 million in 1983.
In 2013, the percentage of workers belonging to a union was 11.3%, compared to 20.1% in 1983.
The rate for the private sector was 6.4%, and for the public sector 35.3%.

It is not the corporation paying zero taxes (you folks who voted for Individual 1) was a policy of the current administration.
to thank for that. Once again I ask what did Individual 1 pay in income taxes?

If they didn't like this or that Amazon would be sat down, made to kiss the ring, and have to give various groups supported by democrats their taste. In short NYC city council and other elected officials were demanding a seat at the table not just now, but for long as Amazon remained.

Amazon realized what time it was, and took the easy out while there was still time and before any serious money was spent.

Mr. Jeff Bezos/Amazon are no strangers to progressive, liberal democrat policies; they've been dealing with them in California and Washington. They got woke when realizing NYC (and now with democrats totally controlling state government, NYS as well) is California and Washington mixed together on steroids.
That’s why I don’t think LIC was ever a slam dunk for HQ2. Andy must have been selling pretty hard but when you look at what was offered it was pretty much programs already in place to attract business.

From what I understand Amazon will try to hire an additional 10 thousand people in NOVA.

Possible, but HQ2 is still going forward where it was intended to be built. Well unless they pull the plug on that too.

Elizabeth Warren is as dumb as Ocasio: here's her victory speech:

@Amazon – one of the wealthiest companies on the planet – just walked away from billions in taxpayer bribes, all because some elected officials in New York aren't sucking up to them enough. How long will we allow giant corporations to hold our democracy hostage?
— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren) February 14, 2019

Demonrats and socialists like Sanders, Warren and Ocasio are still declaring victory in New York!

Amazon peaked anyway. Irrelevant of what the Trump/AOC/Warren cartel says.
