Someone tried to beat a train at Westbury, and was hit by two trains. This caused a derailment, with significant track damage, and damage to the station. Everyone in vehicle killed.

Stupid never takes a day off...
Why is the governor involved aren't there enough local officials to be quoting them in an article?

Unreal, looking at the pictures this morning it's amazing no one ON the train was seriously injured or killed, or even someone who might have been on the platform.

I was coming home from work yesterday (DIFFERENT TOWN than accident) the LIRR gates came down. Sure enough, another car beating the gates. It was close! I said to myself “that car was a lucky idiot “

I came home & saw the news on this accident.

Terrible what happened but at the same I feel those in the car were stupid to think they could beat the train. You can't treat stupidity in the world.

Stupid SOB driver . I want the drivers name plastered all over the net and at each station showing a picture of the deceased driver before the crash and a picture of the burnt up car as a lesson to would-be light passers. Sorry no sympathy for the driver at all. Only sadness for the two innocent victims.

Yeah I feel for the two passengers. Especially picturing them saying "NO! Don't do it!" I mean maybe they were saying "we're late, go for it" ...who knows.

And they were hit by two trains. I wonder if the eastbound train was slow moving having just left the station and they never thought about a speeding westbound train at that hour.

From early reports, sounds like kids (note: this is UNCONFIRMED). Tragic.

As for a pic of the car, fughedduboutit. Supposedly they could not identify the people OR the car due to the extent of the damage. The car was ground to a pulp between the two trains. Maybe they'll find the license plate in a day or two.
