OK, as usual just like Thanksgiving I donate to the local food drive at all supermarkets. This time it was sponsored by the Boy Scouts. As usual, I donate bags and bags full of groceries. 70% of my grocery bill was for the food drive.
I understand it’s a County issue, but King Kullen really?......at least suck up the .5 bag tax!
I understand they sold out for millions and every penny counts, but really? Trust me, it not about the .25 in bags I spent.
they have to charge the 5 cents by law or be fined.

“This year, corporate sponsor, and longtime Island Harvest Food Bank supporter, Stop & Shop will be supplying 30,000 recyclable bags to support the Scouting for Food Drive. Residents may also use their own bags or boxes to donate food. Stop & Shop has also donated $1,000 in gift cards to the Suffolk County Boy Scouts to get them started in reaching their goal of collecting 100,000 pounds of non-perishable items.”
Hi Spanky, which king kullen shopping center did you have your food drive at? I do mine at the middle island kingkullen at least once a month. I've known them for years now and they follow protocol. Just mention that they should remember to bring their own bags so it will save them money and help the environment. By the way we will be at Rocky Point, ny Stop and Shop on 25A, Monday the 25th from 11am-4pm. if anyone wants to help out or donate that would be great. I'm new to the forum. I didn’t have a food drive. I donate every time they are collecting. My original post was about KK charging .5 per bag for donated food. I will now go to Stop & Shop as per above.
The point of the bag fee is to deter you from using those bags.
+1 to u for donating
-1 to u for donating and then bragging about it...one should be humble and not seek credit for such acts
-1 for complaining about the bag fee
-1 for not bringing reusable bags.
Next year, hopefully u will be a net positive.
