If you want to make that salary, take the test and become a cop.
They just had a graduating class in Brentwood.
All that complaining about other’s people salaries is really myopic.
They provide a service, don’t like paying move along....
wow, this shows a solid grasp of both civics and economics.
wait i thought Bellone said he was going to put an end to this reckless overpaid police spending. Oh that's right he is the one that gave the raises!
The police unions had him bought since he started to run for office.
Yeah, he is completely in bed with SCPD. They keep making fools out of everyone in Suffolk, and too many people are willing to go with the "cop hater" narrative their membership tries to sell. No one should vote for the candidate the SCPD supports, no matter what party. If you want to control school taxes, vote for your school board. The next big ticket item on your tax bill are police (not just in property taxes but also part of sales taxes which most people don't know). If you want to control those taxes, vote against the SCPD PBA's pick. Do it every time. They've made enough.
Looks like the new contract brings Top pay to 155 but maintains the 12 years it takes to get there. They also have to pay into healthcare now.
Still paying out way too much per cop with all the fringes. We could have the same police force for 75% of the total cost MINIMUM. And there would still be people flocking to the jobs. It doesn't matter what aspect you lower, the total compensation..salary, time off, cost of medical, pension....is too much compared to what it actually needs to be to have a professional competent police force. And it's only like that because of politicians like Bellone and the excessive influence of the PBA.

Just about every post on here says 150k living on LI is peanuts. These are NOT my post.
How is one suppose to live off of 40k ? OK, 60K with OT? Even if BOTH spouses were cops at 60k each. You’re definitely not buying a VERY MODEST 400K home with 10k+ in taxes.

Salaries should be no more than 15% higher than the equivalent NYPD salary.

Not sure how you help anything by paying cops 65% over the median income (before benefits). Why should households who make $94k be paying cops $155k for a job that requires a HS diploma and 60 community college credits?! A household likely has 2 $60k earners and a $40k earner just to keep up with the income of 1 police officer. That's how to crush an economy and send industries and jobs packing. Add teachers to the mix and this job ponzi scheme tanks growth and leads to perpetual tax increases. Sound familiar?!?
