Default Eaton's Neck - Pro's/Con's

Saw a house in Eaton's Neck that looked good. I don't know anything about the area. It seems like it will be a hike to the LIE, but otherwise very nice. Thoughts....

Really nice area but:

It got cut off during the "storm of the century" years back....

It takes a long time to go anywhere due to its location.

You have to drive thru Asharoken. They issue speeding tickets for exceeding one mile per hour! Also heard they "inspect" cars during the 4th of July weekend.

I have done many inspection in Eaton's Neck but the crawl thru Asharoken is a killer.

Maybe if they get to know you and know you live there its better.

I would live there if I had the money & did not have to commute everyday.

Good luck!

....but, it's a gorgeous place to live. Very private, peaceful and beachy.

For those who may not be familiar with Eatons Neck:

Eatons Neck is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the north-central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Eatons Neck in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north and east by the Village of Asharoken; on the south by Huntington Bay; and, on the west by Long Island Sound.

Eatons Neck is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Eatons Neck have a "Northport, NY 11768" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

It really is beautiful. Some of the houses are architectural standouts, and some are fairly average in basic structure. However, everything is so meticulously maintained that the visual appeal of the neighborhood is greatly enhanced. Even though there are a town beach and a town boat ramp in Eaton's Neck, the traffic never seems to get unmanageable, even in the summer. It always seems very peaceful. As kbinspections said, though, that haul through Asharoken is a tough one. Any commercial activity at all is 6 miles away from Eaton's Neck, so you better be sure you didn't forget to buy everything you needed at the market. You definitely can't speed through Asharoken to get back and forth quickly. I don't believe there are exceptions for most residents, either --maybe for some who are connected to the police. Not others, though, I can tell you! As beautiful as it is, I think it would be a difficult grind for a daily commuter on a tight schedule or someone who needs to be in town many times a day.

It's awfully hilly up in Eaton's Neck , even though the ride there on Asharoken Ave. is flat. You may want to inquire if the roads are sanded/plowed readily in winter by some of the current residents. Note how many of them have four-wheel drive also.

Eaton's Neck is awesome in so many ways but it is remarkably inconvenient for most lifestyle activities. You can't just run out to the store to grab a carton of milk. Add at least fifteen minutes to any trip going anywhere (almost thirty minutes just to the LIE). Also, you'll need to have a generator as they lose power more than most places.

ditto to NYC2RDU. If you enjoy supporting the oil companies and filling up your tank...Eaton's neck is the place for you!

It's a trek, but to many it's likely worth it. Surrounded by water (almost), very secluded (like a private island), nice topography (hill-ier than most of LI), solid area overall. The drive through Asharoken is nice, although apparently a pain.

It's fairly close to Northport and Huntington, though, 2 great towns on LI.
