Wantagh vs. Huntington
Well yeah, I know, Northshore vs. Southshore, but other than that .
I can't decide, but have basically narrowed it down to these two with East Meadow still fighting hard in third place, haha.
Renting, not buying just yet. No kids yet, so don't care about schools.
LIRR is a definite consideration though I may be able to switch to something in Nassau for work. I think BOTH stations are great from what I hear, both around an hr into the city.
Pulling in about 80k for work, so I should be able to be comfortable renting, I believe, but I also don't want a basement.

I'm leaning towards Huntington or East Meadow after reading the trouble with renting in Wantagh and the "old" nature of the houses, ancient if you will. I like the south shore too though. Decisions, decisions.

There's a lot more going on in Huntington. Downtown Huntington is the best "downtown" area on Long Island IMO.

You sound like a young person. Huntington would have more to offer you, then. Wantagh is really a family-oriented kind of place. Not for singles.

Huntington all the way. Granted, Wantagh has some pretty good bars near the train station but it's no match for the size and diversity of Huntington, which also has much better rentals.

Single = Huntington
When you have kids = Northport, Elwood, Centerport (or Huntington in Harborfields SD).
Might want to buy the latter now, so you are very close to the village, but are also set for whatever the future holds. All nice places, though.

I used to live in Wantagh. There are a couple of bars for the single scene, but overall it is more family oriented. Huntington is where you want to be for the weekends. Good luck!
