I've lived on long island for 30 years minus the time in the Air Force and after my active duty time I did reserve time at McGuire AFB in New Jersey. Evertime I had a military weekend and stayed on base or at a local hotel my skin would always be peeling after taking a shower and still felt dirty. I actually brought back a water sample to be tested by a friend of mine at Brookhaven Lab and he couldn't believe how bad their water really was. To sum it up don't knock Long Island like that because Jersey reminds me of an old crackhead prostitute---dirty,smells like smoke, and nobody would touch her or it with a ten foot pole. Also the difference between our strip malls and yours is that we revamp and clean up ours and yours just look dirty and waste away.

AMEN...I'll give another shout out to West Islip, my hometown - but my family lives in Sayville (for years now), my sister moved back 2 years ago (primarily for the education for my niece/nephew and her hubby's teaching - to actually be paid well for an underpaid God-send elsewhere), and I'm putting my house up for sale after 16 years just North of Houston, to move back. Anywhere has it's good and bad areas, I don't care where you live. Figures the guy is from PA...no offense to PA folks in general.

Kind of like when a relative rips on your parents--------you're allowed to do it but not anyone else.

It was sad sad sad... and funny at the same time.. know what I mean?
You get what you pay for though...beaches, great malls...and the fact that it's not hick-y like upstate or crappy like Charlotte. Yeah you can pay cheaper prices elsewhere but nowhere in the world is as beautiful as LI.

You have to start looking, if you like Dix Hills, there is atleast 10-20 places as nice if not nicer.

Hmmm...maybe you were born, bred and live only in Nassau County?

Huntington Village, Northport, Centerport, Sayville, West Islip, Melville, Babylon Village, all of Town of Smithtown, Setauket, Shoreham-Wading River...I married a Queens born Nassau County raised gal. You couldn't pay us to move back west at this point. There are plenty of fine towns in Nassua County but being on the north shore of Suffolk and never having to be on Sunrise/Merrick/Southern State helps keep my blood pressure down...
