I was a lot happier seeing a library there then a glut of more houses. I was actually pleasantly surprised to see a "library" of all things built there.
I got rained out from a job I was doing today so I actually was at that library taking out some books about solar energy. Whats better to read about on rainy daze...lol?
EDIT: Oh yeah and one other thing I like about this sandbar we live on...I JUST got a call today from the head director of Volunteers for Wildlife :: Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Center asking me if I can give her some help figuring out if some buildings the county might give them to move into from their current location over at Caumsett park can be restored b/c she really didn't want to knock them down being they're really old. It's on Harbor Rd across from the white church by that pond (fish hatchery). Nice to know there's still so many people on LI that don't always think about NEW NEW NEW. Nice to hear people think about restoring and recycling
Andy, you are a lucky guy to live in one of the prettiest towns on Long Island with some of the most breathtaking homes. I just love old things, old homes, old books and I get goosebumps when I walk through the Cold Spring Harbor village
Then again we have the 8plex theatre in Huntington and about 15 ice cream shops....so we're both lucky!

No it seemed like the beginning of the usual complaining about how expensive everything is. Maybe that is normal conversation on this board.

Well...Only reason I can afford it is cuz I find the worst falling apart nightmares around and torture my family by making them live in it while I restore them.............and then we have to sell em' when the taxes go up higher than some peoples entire mortgages..lol. It's fun though cause it's what I love to do. You just have to be willing to live through years of dust and debris and be ready to move. Next time yer in town stop in...there's a real estate 4 sale sign out front so you'll feel at home...lol
BTW....I hate to say it but that theater (8plex) in town has to be THE worst movie theater on Long Island. It amazes me being it's right in the center of town. Uncomfortable seats...bad candy concession and not always particularly clean. Kind of an eyesore too. It does have big screens though..lol.

Ok lets talk about the movie theatre....I love that it's there and that it plays all the first run movies immediately (and that I know every kid that works there and everyone in Huntington loves "little Chris" as he calls himself --the ticket taker who always makes me smile lol)....but what's with the sand bags every time it rains? And the rugs actually make squishy sounds when you walk on them after a good rain fall (probably tonight lol)....There must be mold growing inside this building with all the wet/water problems it has. Unfortunately it's probably a big expense to fix it....I guess when they built the building they should have built it up.....I just hope and pray that they never knock it down because we love the movies!

Andy, I will stop by. Maybe I can find someone who actually can get a mortgage these days and sell your house

I remember when they built that theater which wasn't that long ago. I remember they were scrambling to get it done. They had a dead line to meet and the builder was way behind. At least thats what they kept saying.
What bothers me is that it IS the only big first run theater around and the town wasn't real thoughtful in approving the plans. Makes me wonder!!! That thing is an eye sore if you ask me. an ugly concrete box and not even built well. Sometimes we'll go to Westbury or the Famingdale Stadium theather just b/c its so much more comfortable and pleasant. Athough with gas prices the way they are now........
My daughter Jolie worked there and quit about 2-3 months ago (she ended up working at Wild By Nature). The management was ridiculous. Half the time there wasn't even a ticker taker ....that's how well it was run.

Then we have The Fine Arts Cinema. A great theater but kinda small (intimate?) and it's mainly arty movies which is great (different) too. My daughter Jolie calls it, " The Old Peoples Theater"..lol.

No one can really complain about Huntington though...it's one of THE best towns on LI! (inspite of how expensive everything is hee hee )

And oh yeh....you can come by even if you don't have a customer

I love out little library in Babylon Village (and serve on the board). We have a cozy room with a fireplace and really comfy chairs. There is no place better on a rainy wither afternoon.

The Cinema Arts Centre is great! Facilities not the best but a really varied selection of movies.

The Shore is meh. I remember when it was a quad, and even worse. I also used to go to Whitman (lived right near there). That got really dumpy towards the end--a/c always broke.

best theater was the UA Cinema 150 in Syosset.

yes, I agree alexis. Really great movies that no one else is showing (except selected Manhattan theatres).

I loved the Westbury Drive-In. Hope we'll get another drive-in on the island. But I guess the reality is it wouldn't generate as much profit as a multiplex.

All of this talk about libraries...LOL, I love libraries!! Wow, the CSH library is BEAUTIFUL! Do you have to be a CSH resident to check books out from the CSH library? Or can anyone who lives in the Town of Huntington use it?
