Since I have been posting in a Suffolk County bash thread I feel the need to make a list of what makes Long Island "worth it". Please add to it and see what others don't see or take for granted. I am sure there is a lot I forget about.
Excellent medical care The Beaches (everywhere is about 15 minutes from a beach) The choices of great food The schools Proximity to all NYC offers Camping Skiing access about 1 hr away Shopping Our beautiful and abundant parks Our amazing towns examples Port Jefferson, Montauk, Sayville etc Here is one that may be ridiculous but the lack of poisonous animals that can kill you...silly I know but knowing my DS can play in the backyard and not be bit by a rattlesnake is comforting. The change of seasons ALTHOUGH in the midst of a snowstorm I tend to be a little crabby about snow So that is all I can think of right now please add I am sure I will be adding more later |

The level of public services in general is really high, and I love that. My husband was amazed the first time he visited the library near my parents' house.

As someone who is returning to Suffolk - Setauket - after living in other parts of the coutnry for the past decade, thanks for your post! I cringe whenver I read this board because of the many negative posts. At time, they have made me question my decision to return. Nowhere is perfect, its just if the pros out weight the cons and that is ultimately subjective. Thanks for a positive post. I hope to read more of it!
Soon to be home; I have a feeling were not in Kansas anymore! |

Welcome home Kansasfornow.
Just remember: it's always the minority that's vocal when they perceive an injustice. Don't let them cloud your decisions. |

Now that's the truth OhBeeHave!!!! I have more to add ..... SPA's again ridiculous but could you imagine not being able to get a massage?
Also another location thing but we are so close to being able to go to AC and Foxwoods. I am not a big gambler but the one time I went to AC we had a blast. The diversity of entertainment available is awesome!!! |

Some of the best drinking water in the country. This is the first place I have ever lived where I did not need a water filter and my dishes actually come out the of the dishwasher clean!!!
