Muffler Place
I've been looking for a trustworthy mechanic that has fair prices in Suffolk County. I'm loyal if the person is fair to cheap. I live in East Northport, and I'm curious if others know of people worth using?

I can recommend Wolf's in Babylon Village. It is great for me because I just leave my car there and hop right on the LIRR. When I get home, my car is not only repaired and ready , but it is warmed up and waiting for me to get in .
These are truly old-time Long Islanders and I would recommend them 100%.

We've used Integrity Mobil in Northport (at the intersection by Napper Tandys) It has been a couple of years as it is out of the way to get there. We use US-1 Auto on Middle Country Rd in Centereach on a regular basis.

For all the years we lived in East Northport-Northport we used Laurel Service Center just north of the train station (when Larkfield divides go left on Laurel and it's almost immediately on your left).
The man who owns it is named John. He is as ethical a mechanic as you could ever want. I can't tell you he's the cheapest available but his advice was always excellent and he stood behind his work. On one repair the break pads weren't installed properly and when I brought the car back he replaced the pads and the rotors at no additional charge. That was the only bad repair I had in over ten years of using him.
Plus, if you take the LIRR it doesn't get anymore convenient.

I used John, and so as to protect my identity I won't describe what happened, but it was negative. Very negative. He billed me honestly for hours that shouldn't have been spent on the project.
Before I went there, a neighbor told me, "If you go to John, expect to go back for him to repair what he breaks. He always breaks something in the process." That was my experience.

If I can't find some gem out there, I will probably go back to Integrity. I've used them in the past and though they were expensive, they did fine work.
Any others?

Quite frankly I'm stunned. I'm New York City born and raised and am a tough customer to deal with. I've had some good mechanics and some very bad ones and Laurel Service Center always earned my trust.
As well he's very well respected at the firehouse which is how we came to use him (a former neighbor was a volunteer fireman and said John was a favorite). I probably used Laurel Service Center a couple of dozen times through the years (lot's of inspections, brake jobs every now and again and one or two major repairs) and had only one hiccup.
Go figure.
