Farmingdale is not a bad choice, you may need to do more research into the specific areas, while Bethpage, whether in Bethage S.D. or Island Trees S.D. is nice.

A small portion of Bethpage goes to Plainedge.

While no part of the Hamlet of Bethpage is in the Plainedge Union Free School District, a small portion of the "Bethpage, NY 11714" ZIP Code postal zone that is in the Hamlet of Plainedge is in the Plainedge Union Free School District.
For those who may not be familiar with Plainedge:
Plainedge is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southeast part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the southeast part of Nassau County, along the Oyster Bay/Hempstead town line.
Beginning on its northern border and proceeding clockwise, the Hamlet of Plainedge in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Bethpage; on the east by the Hamlet of South Farmingdale; on the south by the Hamlet of North Massapequa; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Levittown in the Town of Hempstead (the Oyster Bay/Hempstead town line).
Plainedge is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name as part of their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Plainedge have a "Massapequa, NY 11758", "Levittown, NY 11756", "Bethpage, NY 11714", "Seaford, NY 11783" and "Farmingdale, NY 11735" mailing address.

For those who may not be familiar with East Farmingdale
For those who may not be familiar with East Farmingdale:
East Farmingdale is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest part of the Town of Babylon, in the southwest part of Suffolk County, in the right angle formed by the Babylon/Huntington/Oyster Bay town line along the Suffolk/Nassau county line).
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of East Farmingdale in the Town of Babylon is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Melville in the Town of Huntington (the Babylon/Huntington town line); on the east by the Hamlet of Wyandanch and the Hamlet of West Babylon; on the south by the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst and the Hamlet of North Amityville; and, on the west by the Hamlet of South Farmingdale and the Village of Farmingdale in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County (the Babylon/Oyster Bay town line and the Suffolk/Nassau county line).
East Farmingdale is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of East Farmingdale have a "Farmingdale, NY 11735" and "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address.

Farmingdale vs Bethpage schools
I lived in Farmingdale for seven years. I also know a few people in Bethpage. If you have young children you may want to consider that Farmingdale schools have a full day kindergarten while Bethpage's is a half day.

Definitely Bethpage. Smaller town but better schools, more neighborly neighbors, better class of people, less illegal immigrants and other undesirables.
