NOT EVERYWHERE! Talk to some landlords I know in NYC! The renters who got in when the getting was good have the upper hand. If this trailer park were in the 5 boroughs it would be a different story altogether.

The only out is for the town to condemn the property, pay the land owner what the property is worth under its highest and best use (vacant land to be developed with luxury housing), and continue to rent the land to the mobile home owners.

And it will snow in July before that scenario happens.

The Town renting to the mobile home owners = all the taxpayers subsidizing rental units which previously weren't subsidized by the taxpayers. So the renters can stay put and the taxpayers can have their taxes increased yet again.

For what it's worth, I have seen it snow in Caledonia, NY during July.

I certainly would not disagree, but for those who cannot realize that dream what are their options?

Move further east, move into a less desireable area in Nassau, move to Jersey, Nothern CT, Duchess, Orange, PA. Buy a small co-op.

The options are virtually endless. I can't buy a 8K sq. ft. house in 2 acres in Brookville like these people can't live here.

Perfect answer. Move to a less desirable area where you can get a small home for a lot cheaper. Yes, this can be done on LI.

You can't expect to live in a prime high end area for peanuts. I really have little sympathy, I know I sound cold but that's the truth.

We ALL want to live somewhere we can't afford. Such is life.

Well wow unreal... I guess just put yourself in the situation and wow cold is too nice a statement; a chill is apparent here in general. I think it is about people who probably don't have that option or any options. LI at its best. So too bad I guess you all are ok so frig em. Time to tow that single wide to FLA.

But isn't that life? To make a choice for your family to live more affordably? Just as if I couldn't afford the taxes here, I would have to consider moving elsewhere, no? The world doesn't revolve around what I need.

Yes that's life so they so say You're riding high in April, Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune, When I'm back on top, back on top in June.

I guess the point is you don't have to just shoot people down because they are down. Obviously I agree to a point and not really disputing, but hey have a heart.

I do have a heart about some issues. But I don't have sympathy in this case, where they were getting a steal of a deal to live in Syosset. The party is over, that's all I can think of when I read this story.
