Default Franklin Square / Elmont School District?

I was told that Franklin Square belongs to SD 13 or 17. I'm looking at some listing and they say the Elmont school district. Is that correct?

How is the Elmont school district compared to the others?

Default For those who may not be familiar with Franklin Square

About 10% or so of the western quarter of the Hamlet of Franklin Square is in the Elmont School District, while the other 90% or so of the Hamlet of Franklin Square is in the Franklin Square School District. All of the Hamlet of Franklin Square is in Central High School District 2.

For those who may not be familiar with Franklin Square:

Franklin Square is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest section of the Town of Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Franklin Square in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Stewart Manor, the Village of Garden City and the Hamlet of South Garden City; on the east by the Hamlet of South Garden City and the Hamlet of West Hempstead; on the south by the Village of Malverne and the Hamlet of North Valley Stream; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Elmont.

The Hamlet of Franklin Square has a different border than does the "Franklin Square, NY 11010" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address and not be in Franklin Square and a place can be in the Hamlet of Franklin Square and have other than a "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address): places with a "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Franklin Square are in the Village of Stewart; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Franklin Square that have a "Garden City, NY 11530" and "Elmont, NY 11003" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Don't pay Franklin Square prices to go to Elmont schools. If you like Elmont schools and the area of Elmont, then buy a house in Elmont and save some cash.

Check this post on another recent thread, but don't take it as a glowing endorsement of the Elmont district because I don't know anything about it personally. Most people consider it one of the worst on LI but I think that may be a huge exaggeration...

I agree with fopt65 too, if you're gonna be in the Elmont district you might as well take a huge discount on the house and live in the hamlet as well....maybe Stewart Manor would be worth a look too, just as expensive as Franklin Square but generally a nicer area.

For those who may not be familiar with Stewart Manor:

At one time referred to as Sunrise Gardens, Stewart Manor is a village (incorporated in 1927) in the northwest section of the Town of Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Stewart Manor in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of New Hyde Park; on the east by the Village of Garden City; on the south by the Hamlet of Franklin Square; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Elmont and the Village of Floral Park.

Stewart Manor is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the village name as part of their mailing address: places in the Village of Stewart Manor have a "Garden City, NY 11530 and "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address.

I always thought Stewart Manor was more expensive than Franklin Square.

If you're headed in the direction of Stewart Manor, parts of Garden City Park go to Garden City schools.
