It's not that I hate LB, it's just not the most economical area to live in. I myself am looking to move...probably RVC. I find my commute to virtually everywhere takes twice as long from LB as it would from RVC. RVC has a better bar scene for those of us who are in our late 20's/30's. LB is very much 21/22/23 year olds. When it rains, the entire city floods. The drains cannot handle the water. I have found water in my apartment more times than I can count.

Don't be so sure. I spent Saturday night in a RVC bar with my husband and some friends and although the night started out with a good mix of ages, as it wore on, there was mostly the "barely 21" crowd there. I was looking at them and thinking to myself, "Did I look like a goofy little baby like this?" There were gurls wearing tops that you wear in the summer with tiny little spaghetti straps (although admittedly the place was very warm inside so it worked out for them). And I was in a different RVC bar a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night and the same thing with the age group.

First of all, some people look young. I'm 28, I easily look 19...EASILY. So perhaps the people who you thought were "barely 21" really are in fact older. Secondly, depends also on which bar in RVC you are at. If you were at kaseys then yeah, that place is the mecca for college kids...generally though most of the bars are older.

Have you ever been to an LB bar? I'm not talking about Sutton Place or the Saloon. Minnesotas and The Inn, namely...always very young. Same thing with the Barnum Island Wharf.

Also, it's different for you b/c you are married. When you are single & looking, the clientele and age group of the bar can be a VERY BIG deal.

I personally could care less about the bar scene. I am 35 and Married. My wife is 29. We are more interesting in Cultural events - like the Cinema Arts center in Huntington. I wish Long Beach had one of those......

Good points.

Yes, I have been to LB bars also. A lot of younger crowds. Do you ever go to the bars on the Nautical Mile in Freeport? We went this past summer and the crowds on the street are very mixed from old people to little kids in strollers.

Yes, I love Nautical Mile...but also it's mixed b/c most of the places are also restaurants not only bars. In the daytime you will always find mixed clientele having meals. @ Nighttime certain bars are generally younger, whereas others are older. Bracco's tends to be a younger crowd...while Hudson & McCoy or Jeremy's Ale House are generally older...but at nighttime you generally do not see senior citizens or kids walking the streets...maybe to play golf or get ice cream.

I noticed that as well, mixed until 10, 11-ish, then it's Romper Room.
Many different places too, seems to be a trend these days. Old crowd exits by 10, young crowd starts coming in by 10:30/11. It's cool though. Good for business.

On Sat. night I have seen seniors and mommies pushing kids in strollers as late as 10:30/11:00 pm, but you are right, they are not heading into bar territory but restaurant/snacks/amusement territory.
