Educate yourself broke dumb and 40. Its the law, FEDERAL law. Not just a NY thing, not just LI or the "evil greedy" Nassau PBA. If ANY first responder (police, FIRE, EMSetc. ) dies of COVID it is considered line of duty and the survivors are entitled to enhanced benefits. This is because first responders can be exposed to covid on a regular basis. Nor do they have the luxury of distancing from others who are infected. No they don't "cough to death in uniform" (as you so stupidly put it) but that is irrelevant. You don't like it? Call your congressman to have the law repealed. LOL Good luck with that.

I'm sorry that's ridiculous, big difference of an Officer going to stop a suspect getting shot and killed than a covid death. Covid should not be used to get enhanced benefits, especially when we have a vaccine that basically eliminates the chance of death from covid. If officer was vaccinated and died of covid maybe you can make the case. Unvaxxed and death, the family should just get the standard death benefit.

Because grocery store clerks and Tyson food workers aren’t civil service and don’t get death benefits or pensions in the first place so there are no survivor benefits to even give. It’s a false comparison.

Because those places don't fetishize and idol worship their chicken workers (who may very well be unionized) the way we brown nose cops and teachers around here.
