I'm really thinking it's time to move
I'm fed up with Westbury. I walked around town today and I felt like I was in a foreign country, and then I saw some gangs yelling at eachother on Post avenue.
A perfect example of how lousy this stinkin village is, was how they are handling the dog attack. As I posted before, a loose dog attacked me while walking down the sidewalk biting my wrist. So I attended village court to testify about the dog attack, I was given documentation of TWO PRIOR attacks by this same dog on innocent bystanders. The owner of the dog did not show. The village judge, Judge Liotti, then decided it would be best if he DID NOT HANDLE this case and instead forward me to Nassau county DA.
So I went to the DA's office, filed my report, and was told by one of the A.D.A.'s (Mrs.Wright) that this incident should be handled by the Town of North Hempstead. Even though I told her the Town of North Hempstead animal control already said that it's not their decision and released this dog back to it's owner. It could be roaming the streets right now as we speak.
She said she will get the town to take action. So today I get a letter from the D.A.'s office that "this case would be best handled by the Village of Westbury"! Here were go again, 3 attacks and this dog is still in the town? What gives? I bet if this happened in East Hills it would've been dealt with swiftly, but if you dont live in rich snooty town then you dont count, its the Nassau county way.
I'm calling a lawyer, and am going to sue the village of Westbury and the owner, and hopefully get enough money to move out of this trashy, lawless town once and for all.
I want to move to Suffolk county, Lake Ronkonkoma area sounds real nice, it's still Long Island and it's still America over there.

Don't count on it.... Suffolk County is just as filled with illegals as Nassau County is. There's no getting away from it.
You should sue the owner and the town. They both had prior notice that this dog is unsupervised and dangerous and they let it continue to roam around and it attacked you. Get yourself a good lawyer and sue the daylights out of them... If the owner of the dog isn't a homeowner, then sue his landlord since the dog lives on the landlord's property.
Good luck!

I see less illegals in Suffolk. At least in the towns I go to Lake Grove, Ronkonkoma, Ridge, Middle Island, Rocky Point, etc. I think because more people in Suffolk MOW THEIR OWN LAWN instead of using landscapers. The ppl out there seem much more down to earth then the snobs here.
And the buses dont seem crowded at all, whereas in Nassau they are jammed.
I do need a lawyer but can't afford to pay them unless I win a settlement.
Suffolk County seems to have a much better government, just look how they passed that contractor law 12-3, you'd never see any such law in Nassau, the exec and legislature only care about the rich and want more hiring halls. Meanwhile they decide to give us much less services in return (less parks, less police, etc). Instead of passing legislation to benefit citizens, Nassau decides to make everyone who gets a ticket to pay $15 surcharge whether they are guilty or not. And Suozzi and the dems in the legislature keep getting re-elected. I guess because the only ppl that vote here are rich snobs and everyone else is an illegal alien that does their lawn, paints their home, watches their kids, and wipes their behind.

Most lawyers would take your case on a contingency basis ---- meaning you would pay them nothing until the case settles. Typically, they would take 33 1/3% plus expenses. You have pics of the bite, you have pics of the dog, you have proof from the town that he's bitten people on 2 separate occassions prior to the attack on you. Make copies of all your paperwork and get yourself a lawyer! I definitely think you have a good case and can get yourself some $$$ and get out of there to a nicer place.

I completely support your decision to move out of Nassau County and frankly don't think it can come a minute too soon. Start packing tomorrow!

Idea for you
That is very pathetic of them to keep passing the buck. They need to have a fire lit under their *sses pronto!
Why don't you email your pics of the bite, package, dog, etc., and tell your story to Gwen Young, the Community Watchdog columnist/reporter for Newsday:
Getting the run-around from Town Hall?
Got a problem on your block the village won’t fix?
Are you running out of gas trying to get the highway department to repair that huge pothole?
Gwen answers reader questions and hounds local officials in a weekly column.
Is there something in your neighborhood not getting fixed? Let us know.

Hmm, I don't know that there are less illegals in Suffolk. I actually think there are more from what I have read. I think plenty of people in Suffolk use landscapers, as their properties are much larger. Just as Westbury has it's issues, many Suffolk towns do as well so just do your research.
