Brentwood, NY
I am a resident of Brentwood, NY. I own my home which is beautiful. I am a professional who has worked in law enforcement for over 20 years. I graduated from college at 20 years old. I have never collected welfare or used any drug in my life. I don't drink or engage in illegal activites. I don't have roaches in my house and my credit is outstanding. I love my husband and children and get along with my neighbors.
I said all of that to say, the postings I have read about Brentwood would give most readers the impression that Brentwood is the land of the lawless and the residents are all dope dealing, gun shooting, crackheads.
To those ranters I say come to my block. I don't have any crack houses on my block. The only time the police ever came to my block was when a white family who used to live across the street allowed their dog and year old child to roam through the street unattended.
My next door neighbor is a nurse who owns several homes. One of my neighbors across the street is a teacher and her husband is an administrator with a well known cable company. Another neighbor is an engineer.
It does not take a genius to see through the thinly veiled racist views of the ranters (Brentwood is predominantly hispanic. I am not!!)
For those who don't like Brentwood, problem solved: don't live here. But do the resident's of Brentwood a favor, clean up your own house before you talk about the condition of another's.

For those who may not be familiar with Brentwood:
Brentwood is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest section of the Town of Islip, in the southwest part of Suffolk County, along the Islip/Smithtown, Islip/Babylon and Islip/Huntington town lines.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Brentwood in the Town of Islip is bordered on the north by Hamlet of Commack and the Hamlet of Hauppauge in the Town of Smithtown (the Islip/Smithtown town line); on the east by the Hamlet of Central Islip and the Hamlet of Islip; on the south by the Hamlet of Islip, the Hamlet of North Bay Shore and the Hamlet of Baywood; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Deer Park in the Town of Babylon (the Islip/Babylon town line) and the Hamlet of Dix Hills in the Town of Huntington (the Islip/Huntington town line).
The Hamlet of Brentwood has a different border than does the "Brentwood, NY 11717" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Brentwood, NY 11717" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Brentwood): places that have a "Brentwood, NY 11717" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Brentwood are in the Hamlet of Dix Hills in the Town of Huntington.

Baywood is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Baywood have a "Brentwood, NY 11717" and "Bay Shore, NY 11706" mailing address.

I believe Baywood is a part of Bayshore town but it is split with the school district with somne going to Brentwood and some going to Bay Shore. Im sure our own geography expert will confirm. Its actually not a bad looking area.

Driving down 5th ave gives you the bad impression of Brentwood. I lived in Bayshore and went to Brentwood schools. In Jr High (West) we had to wait every morning in front of the schools till they opened the doors. There were fights every single day, and it was 60% (black) 30% (white) and 20% (hispanic)
In 8th grade I was tossed down the stairs by some black kids and broke my ankle. My father was a cop in the 3rd precint. (On 5th ave) A lot of bad things went down there I remember. You deserve a pat on the back for being such an up standing person in a not so nice town.

Baywood was created out of parts of Brentwood and Bay Shore. I believe it is in Brentwood S.D.

I met an older man up here recently and I found out he was originally from Brentwood. I said to him (we just moved in September 07) "How long since you were back?" He said, "I went in 1989 and would NEVER go back there..things have changed too much."
Sadly, Brentwood has gone down hill, like much of the USA.
However, you have a fabulous library and I am sure the state pours a ton of money into the schools. It still has a few nice streets but overall I would not want to live there.
