We would like to buy a home on LI and are concerned about crime. Are crime statistics posted anywhere? I came across this map. How accurate is it for your area?

Meh. Most of those types of maps and charts and such are not very accurate.
They may be a good snapshot for certain areas, but it’s usually something you already know like a notorious crime area. My old neighborhood in Nassau comes up as being fairly good, but I know for a fact crime has skyrocketed. Not so much violent crimes and murder, but property crimes have raised exponentially. So, don’t trust the maps. You need boots on the ground.

It lists MacArthur airport as a high crime area with an F.

Guess the data doesnt take in to account statistical anomalies

That map shows Williston Park is a crime infested area, while Roosevelt is nice and green.

I know that site is hilariously inaccurate for areas of my town and a number of nearby towns in Massachusetts, in having a bias for overstating crime, so I would say that one should not assume it is inaccurate.

Because all the criminals from Roosevelt are going to Williston Park to commit crimes?

Strongs Neck in Setauket where I grew up also appears to be crime-ridden .

Avoid Wyandanch, Gordon Heights, North Bellport, especially at night. Also Brookhaven National Laboratory according to that map.
