Default East Norwich anybody????

Hi,

We are Manhattanites looking to buy on North Shore and came upon a great mid-1950's California Split range of homes adjacent to the Pine Hollow Country Club in East Norwich. Smartly priced and very low taxes.

Can anyone share their thoughts on this area?? Not much written about East Norwich - - anywhere. The area was very beautiful (lots of woods and nice properties) but was wondering about the amenities, people/types, schools and commute to city.

Please let me know if you know!

Thanks

I worked in East Norwich for many years. Yes, it is absolutely beautiful there. As far as commuting to the City, Hicksville train station is not too far from there, it's right down 106.

Default For those who may not be familiar with East Norwich

You should be aware that almost half the places that have an "East Norwich, NY 11732" mailing address are NOT in the Hamlet of East Norwich.

For those who may not be familiar with East Norwich:

East Norwich is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the north part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the northeast part of Nassau County.

Beginning on its northern border and proceeding clockwise, the Hamlet of East Norwich in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the Village of Upper Brockville, the Hamlet of Oyster Bay and the Village of Oyster Bay Cove; on the east by the Village of Oyster Bay Cove; on the south by the Hamlet of Syosset and the Village of Muttontown; and, on the west by the Village of Muttontown and the Village of Upper Brookville.

East Norwich is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where many of the places with the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the hamlet: places that have an "East Norwich, NY 11732" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of East Norwich are in the Village of Upper Brookville, the Hamlet of Oyster Bay and the Village of Muttontown; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of East Norwich that have an "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" mailing address.

Additionally, the "East Norwich, NY 11732" postal zone is a "bifurcated" postal zone: it consists of two non-connected areas, with the two (2) areas separated by the "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" postal zone.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Default A tale of two Norwiches

There used to be two (2) "Norwiches" in New York State: When the U.S. Postal Service changed their rules to disallow the multiple use of the same geographic name in the same state, the Village of Norwich in the Town of Norwich, now the City of Norwich, in Chenango County, near the current City of Binghamton in Broome County continued to be called "Norwich" and the "Norwich" in the Town of Oyster Bay, then part of Queens County (Nassau County seceded from Queens County on January 1, 1899), modified its name to "East Norwich".

I've never heard anything bad at all. All the neighboring towns are excellent, too. The schools I've heard are ok to good, and there's a good amount of Catholic and private schools in the immediate area.

It's a nice location...a bit out of the way, but really only minutes from a lot.

I think if you like the area and it's a good deal, there's not much of a reason not to go for it.

Best of luck.
