I was considering The Villages in Florida. After much research I decided to stay on Long Island. I realized a good amount of residents in The Villages come from rural locations or medium size cities throughout America. So moving to the Villages gives them soooo much more to do. If you can stand the heat and humidity!

However, Long Island has many many activities for retired folks and they are all in our backyards. Beachs, Beautiful towns (The Hamptons) amazing day trips (Montauk Lighthouse) North shore mansions and even rolling hills on the northshore (courtesy of the last ice age). And, of course, New York City! An LIRR train ride away.

So I'm staying. I have my condo and I'm happy. Thoughts? Thanks. Marvin

I think you made the right choice as it sounds like you are happy with your decision and in the end that’s what matters not what people on a message board say. Did you ever actually visit the villages? It’s MASSIVE. But the areas around it, Ocala, Sumpter/Marion counties etc are awful IMO, and it’s in the middle of the state so the heat in the summer is even more brutal there.

Hi Peconic. Yes, I visited the Villages in late April about 4 years ago. Just before the heat of the summer rolled in. My sales rep said they were to reach their 'build out' and if i wanted the option to live in the Villages I should come down for the Lifestyle Visit soon. Well, look what happened; the expansion to the south is massive! And you are correct, the surrounding areas are awful. Thanks. Marvin

Gotta warn you about waivers. Waivers don't transfer from state to state unlike SSI. Which means if you move out of state gotta start all over with the waiver process which means getting back on the waitlists which can take years and years.
