I made the trip to Alberts the other night on your recommendation. I thought the food was ok, it was definitely overpriced, and the pink, green, and grey 80's decor has to go. So far my favorite in Huntington area is China King (only take out, but who cares).

I fondly remember Mei Ting's, wonderful food.

I also loved Eng's Kitchen in East Northport.

The Panda Restaurant on Fort Salonga Road is very good. Excellent Sesame Chicken and Shrimp.

Found this Newsday Obituary on Jack W Lee, the owner of Mei Ting during it's heyday...

Apparently, he was a really active member of the community in Huntington and Melville....

Jack W. Lee, a World War II veteran who owned the Mei Ting restaurant in Huntington while actively participating in the community, died of pneumonia Jan. 15 in Troy, Ohio. The former Cantonese interpreter for the Nassau and Suffolk County courts was 91.
Born in Portland, Ore., to Lee Mee and Wong Ling Ginn, Lee was the sixth of eight children. In 1921, the family moved to Shanghai, China. Five years later, at age 17, Lee moved to New York City, where he pursued an education.
"His father couldn't afford to send him to school in China," said his daughter, Sharon Lee-Bense of Huntington Station.
To support himself, Lee worked in restaurants as a waiter or bartender, and postponed his education until after World War II. From 1943 to 1944, he worked as a radar technician in Virginia. In 1944, Lee was drafted into the Army Air Forces and served three years as a staff sergeant. He was stationed in various posts in China and India. After the war, he spent eight years in the reserves.
Lee graduated in 1950 from Long Island University in Brooklyn with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He married Lily Ho that year and moved to Huntington Station where the couple lived for 47 years and had four children. In 1951, Lee began managing Mei Ting Restaurant, now known as Mandarin Gourmet. He sold it in 1979, but worked there for three more years. Lee also served as a court interpreter in Long Island for 40 years.
Lee was active in various community organizations. "He was a well- known member of the community and well-respected," Lee-Bense said.
Lee was on the board of directors for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in Smithtown and a member of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, where he served as director from 1973 to 1976. He was a member of the Melville Lions Club District 20, Suffolk, for 32 years and the first district governor of Asian descent. Lee also was chairman of the Nathan Hale District Boy Scouts from 1966 to 1967 and a trustee of the Huntington Historical Society from 1968 to 1971.
Lee received many awards for his contributions to the community. In 1971, he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award from the Suffolk Council of the Boy Scouts; in 1979, he received the John Klaber Award from the Chamber of Commerce for distinguished service to the community. Long Island University honored Lee with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1983. A member of the Lions club, he was awarded the International President Medal in 1987 and the Lions International Humanitarian Award.
In 1997, Lee and his wife moved to Troy, Ohio, where his son, Daniel Lee, an ophthalmologist, lived.
Besides his wife, daughter and son, Lee is survived by two more daughters, Lorraine Carlson of Collingswood, N.J., and Annette Lynch of Edina, Minn.; and 13 grandchildren.
Burial was at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family requests that donations in Lee's memory may be made to The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, 371 E. Jericho Tpke., Smithtown, N.Y. 11787.
