Default Holbrook commute to Lake Success?

My husband and I looking to buy our first home and have started out looking in Huntington, South Huntington and Greenlawn. We are trying to stay under 400. This weekend we drove out to Holbrook and Holtsville, it seemed nice and you get more for your money. My husband takes the train so if we moved out there he could travel from the Ronkonkoma station, but I work in Lake Success and have a rigid schedule that I must be in by 9am each morning. Can you tell me how bad the commute is from out there in the morning west. I don't have a fuel efficient car so I cannot take the HOV lane. We currently live on the North Shore in Nassau and wish we could stay but can't afford it.
