ummm, the only people that take 30 years to get here are people with criminal records or odd issues. I know quite a few people that came here legally. it took 1-5 years max. I have no tolerance for illegal immigrants. I know many people who waited a year or two to come here legally while others committed a crime by crossing the border. Any other country in the world would arrest these people. Illegal = crime and these people should be deported. Also I know people that got into car accidents with illegals with no insurance. Guess what, the illegal disappeared and the person not at fault's insurance went up. I can't understand why people defend illegals???? The make it bad for law abiding civilians. As for welfare...more people find a way around the system than you think. I worked with people in my entry-level college job that claimed kids they didn't have or double-claimed them in different states to get more money. People are ignorant if they don't realize this happens.

Dontcha just LOVE the "schools" they have to "teach" them how to take advantage of our Laws...and it's all FREE or tax payer supported !
Since they don't know how to navigate in a locality, how else do they assimulate and "get wise" ? The AAA isn't helping them !

llama, it can take 10 years to get a visa if you're low priority. It took my husband 8 months to get his green card, and he did it pretty much the fastest way you can (US citizen and spouse living abroad, filing through embassy).
The US immigration system really is terribly run; I could tell you so many stories of lost paperwork, people on the phone who can't access records and can't tell you anything, you name it.
This isn't justification for just turning up, but anyone who thinks our immigration system works has never had to deal with it.

I do realize it isn't perfect. My best friend's husband took a year to get here from India and relatives took 3 years. However, just crossing the border isn't justified when so many people are waiting to do it the right way.
I also wonder if having so many illegals is making immigration accept less people each year by quota? I don't know if that is the case, but it would be interesting to find out.
I totally agree that immigration INS is not totally eficient....but if someone doesn't qualify, they don't have a right to just come anyway. No other country would allow that.

Try to stay on topic, please so that this thread may remain open. There is a whole forum about immigrants on city-data.

Don't take the 3:15AM train, from PENN to Ronkonkoma, unless you want to be a Crime Victim.
The train, while mostly populated by sleeping workers, is peppered with a fair amount of Predators who like to terrorize and intimadate people.
Moderator cut: Please read the TOS & the sticky at the top of our forum regarding racist remarks. And those were racist.
