Default eastwood estates centereach

i am thinking of buying in what they call eastwood estates section of centereach. anyone live, or lived there? It looks like a nicely kept area. Just looking for some opinions. Please keep opinions to yourself if you have never lived there or are just gonna bash on centereach. I am looking for honest opinions of people who live there, or know of the area. Thanks

Default For those who may not be familiar with Centereach

For those who may not be familiar with Centereach:

Centereach is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the west part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the central part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Centereach in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket; on the east by the Hamlet of Terryville and the Hamlet of Selden; on the south by the Hamlet of Farmingville, the Hamlet of Holtsville and the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma, the Village of Lake Grove and the Hamlet of Stony Brook.

The Hamlet of Centereach has a different border than does the "Centereach, NY 11720" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Centereach, NY 11720" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Centereach and a place can have other than a "Centereach, NY 11720" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Centereach): places that have a "Centereach, NY 11720" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Centereach are in the Hamlet of Farmingville and the Hamlet of Selden; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Centereach with a "Selden, NY 11784" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

It's an okay area, the school district is middle country which is good but like alot of local areas has a couple less desirable streets but not horrible. Lots of good local businesses and close to main roads and hospital. What specific streets are you looking at,that may help?

Not to bash on Centereach, but I know that Eastwood Village and Dawn Estates were always considered the lower end of Centereach due to the fact that they were both originally developed as low cost housing. This is mentioned in the Long Island Our Story "Hometown Long Island" write up on Centereach. This opinion also comes from relatives who grew up in the area and knew people who lived there.

I was looking at a house on virginia rd. i am suprised that the area is considered not that desirable. i drove around and noticed only a couple of rundown houses(which seems to be the norm for suffolk). most of the houses were well kept and had nice landscaping. while i wouldnt consider it upscale, it seems like a decent middle class niegborhood.

It's not really considered less desirable its just that the few blocks stand out.Just drive behind White Castle (washington)up to hawkins and take a look around. It has improved though recently because most of the homes that were rented by college kids(closer to hawkins) were bought up and families moved in. Your best bet is always to drive around 5-6pm to get a good idea and sundays (around noon). Also check by flower lane.I haven't been there in a while but just to be safe check that area as well. Don't worry though, its not going to be horrible even in the worst case.

thanks, i am in contract on the house. the neighborhood looked generaly nice to me. it is right by the pre-k school. the nearest blocks look like they are well maintained. If anyone knows of a good italian resturant (other than cafe amici) and a good bagel place(real bagels not the garbage ones that are baked) in the general area i would appreciate it.

Just west by burlington coat factory is Uncle Joes thats pretty good, mama lombardi's in holbrook-very good and only about 10 minutes away. For bagels try strathmore in Port Jefferson Station/E.Setauket on nesconset hwy.Take nicholls north, make a right on 347(nesct hwy) comes up on left in Waldbaums shopping center. They are the best around.

One thing's for sure I like Centereach much better than Westbury. It aint fancy but it seems pretty safe and clean. Close to everything (shopping, trails, etc).
