Wantagh?
Have been looking around the Wantagh area. Friends of mine are moving there and it seems nice.
I am considering it. I live way out in Suffolk and feel far from everything here.
I like the quick train ride to NYC.
Can anyone give opinions on Wantagh? Houses are very close together compared to where I'm coming from, but I sort of like it. I feel like I don't know anyone out here where I am.
My friend was showing me Wantagh Park. i couldn't believe it. It's so big!
We don't have anything like that out here.

Wantagh is a very nice town, look in Wantagh Woods. The park and library system in Nassau is better than Suffolk.

For those who may not be familiar with Wantagh:
Wantagh is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southeast section of the Town of Hempstead, in the southeast part of Nassau County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Wantagh in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Wantagh; on the east by the Hamlet of Seaford; on the south by the East Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Bellmore and the Hamlet of North Bellmore.
The Hamlet of Wantagh has a different border than does the "Wantagh, NY 11793" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Wantagh, NY 11793" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Wantagh): places that have a "Wantagh, NY 11793" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Wantagh are in the Hamlet of Seaford, the Hamlet of Bellmore, the Hamlet of North Bellmore, the Hamlet of North Wantagh and the Hamlet of Levittown.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

hey KB,
Yeah, everything in Nassau seems to be better than suffolk. LOL!
I feel so far removed from everything.
Hubby is originally from Roslyn and wanted to experience "the country."
Ha Ha.
I will look into Wantagh Woods. Thanks.

We lived in the Woods. The elementary school in that area is a Blue Ribbon winner. Nice area. The whole town in nice. You cannot beat Cedar Creek Park. School taxes are HIGH. They just voted to increase school taxes another 9%. Most of which goes to salaries and administration. CRAZY!

Yeah, School taxes are high everywhere. It is ridiculous!
Out here in the boonies mine aren't cheap. I have neighbors paying over $25,000 for taxes!

Wantagh is great, you won't be disappointed. I agree that Woods is the nicest neighborhood, but they're all winners. Excellent schools, great food, good bars, train service is fast and frequent, beautiful parks, nature preserves and Jones Beach is literally minutes away.
