Is $60,000 to $65,000 per year in New York?
HI,
I have an offer for $60,000 to $65, 000 at New York. Is it affordable for a family of 2 persons (husband and wife)? If I would want to save, how much can I save. Can anyone answer me the following questions?
1. What is the average flat/house rent? 1 bedroom/2 bedroom
2. What would be the installment for car if I buy one of say, $15,000
3. For a TV, Fridge, Laptop and household lighting, what would be avergae electricity bill?
4. For 2 persons, what would be monthly grocery charges? Indian food.
5. How much fuel /gas cost per litre?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Manoj.

I agree with MrBiggz,
Where in NY.....huge difference between NYC and upstate or western NY.
How is your debt load? Do you go out to eat often? Do you have 2 big brand new SUV's? Etc,Etc........
Lifestyle means all the difference in the world. Will you live in an apt? what would be your rent, and utilities? Will you buy a house, a starter home or a mansion?
Do you Mall shop, or frequent Walmart? Some people would think they hit the lottery making 60k.....others could not do it.
We are not trying to get too personal, but that is a difficult question to answer...

Well, I also, dont go shopping often, neither I'll eat out often. Also, accomodation, I am fine with anything which works cheaper and ready to share the accomodation.

In my opinion, $65,000 for 2 people is not enough to get by. And I dont live high on the hog. Just the basics..life insurance, 401 k plan, simple cars, etc.

60-65k on Long Island, is going to be difficult
the average 1 bed apt= $12-1400 a month, plus util (average electric $100+)
2 bed apt= $14-1600+
average house $400-500,000
taxes on that house $9-12,000
then you have transportation costs,, be close to work if you can
best of luck

I don't think that is a very good salary for 2 people at all. I would turn that offer down IMO. I would say you would need about 100,000 - 125,000 and even then it would be tough to save for a home and pay rent and utilities.
