if you were trying to sell a house fsbo, where would you advertise? (New York: for sale)

We are attempting to try and sell on our own b/c it is how we have bought and sold 6 houses before in the past. Obviously, this is a different market than those were. Has anyone used the mls service where you pay to list yourself and then offer a realtor the commission if they bring you the buyer-about 2 1/2 %? Any other ways beside newsday and craigslist you have used to advertise or for exposure. Thanks.

Don't waste your money on those services. Real estate agents really don't like to deal with them, so although you will end up on Multiple listing, you'll probably get few showings.


While it sounds self serving, if you are serious about selling in today's market you really need the services of a good real estate agent. A few years ago you could put a sign on the lawn and get your home sold. Today, that is not the case.


That being said, here are a few web sites that you may want to post your listings. Be sure to include plenty of pictures, a virtual tour, and above all, price it right.
