Advice please - Long Island North Shore areas
We are moving to LI, and were recently in town looking at areas to purchase a home, all North Shore.
Could you please give me advice on the following areas. We are trying to purchase a home in a desirable area with a good reputation, great schools, older homes, that people want to someday live in. Also, we liked the little "town" streets some had - with restaurants and such. Thanks!!!!
Oyster Bay
Northport
Bayville
Locust Valley
Sea Cliff
I appreciate any assistance, have a great week.

All beautiful areas, as you already know
I don't know much about school districts, though Oyster Bay has good stats. Locust Valley public I don't think is too hot. Most of LV kids go to private schools (Friends being the biggest)
Sea Cliff is georgous! Do they go to Glen Cove schools?
Northport is the odd man out, the farthest East.
GOOD LUCK, all these areas are highly desired and all have their charms for sure!
Question: why not CSH on the list? It is very similiar in many ways to the areas on your list, and the price of houseing and taxes is on the same level.

Cold Spring Harbor!
My vote is either Northport, Huntington, or Cold Spring Harbor

No doubt hands down Sea Cliff is for you, Suozzi and his devoloper friends ruened those other towns especially the schools in Glen Cove with all the 3rd world sec 8 housing up by the firehouse. (Democrat voters)
Suozzi when he was town supervisor there threw all the zoning and building rules down the toilet, appointed "political friends" to DOB like Great Neck and Manhasset did.
Sea Cliff looks like Edgertown Ma where they fimed "JAW's"
No blond brick and stucco junk, those people are there for the long run.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "PEOPLE WANT TO LIVE IN SOMEDAY" ?
Now this is disturbing
Many people move to raise there kids in the North Shore public schools (on my tax dollar) then sell to some wise guy looking to knock down the house and put up a McMansion or 3 family blond brick Asian hat by 6PM on graduation day.
If this is your intention you WILL NOT be welcome in Sea Cliff and they will be on to you, especially if you’re Asian or Mid-Eastern.
And good luck getting permits and "getting a talking to" if you try it

Whoa. I guess I misworded that. Didnt mean to "disturb".
I have heard that certain neighborhoods are on the decline. We were already warned about other areas, same as you did above. I appreciate the information.
We arent looking to flip a property or anything, just for a home in a cute area. We are being relocated to LI, so there is a chance that could happen again a few years down the road - but we hope not.

I viewed the comment as "resale value", or an area that will remain sought after by other families down the road.
Joe L., obviously you are a long-time LI resident and you have seen the massive changes, and declines, of the area.
I used to live in Huntingon, by the harbor, and believe me that is what is ahppening, knocking down perfectly good, mid-century homes, and building 2 McMansions in their place 5 ft. from each other! Absolutely horrible, and ruining the small town charm of so many villages! It is all about the money. Tahat is why we lft LI a year ago, could not take it any longer.
BUT, many people are moving TO LI, so let's help whom we can.
Maybe, you should look into Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington as mentioned.
The prices are similiar to the other areas, so your budget will allow you to buy in CSH or Huntington Bay, or Lloyd Harbor/Lloyd Neck. These are all waterfront areas, as are your original towns listed.
Good luck, keep asking questions!

Thanks for understanding. I have been put through hell with currupt town officials in the Town Of North Hempsted.
Ever since the Democrats got in around 91 my neighbors and I have spent 10's of thousands of dollars fighting a township..Burp “Conglomerate” more interested in real estate production to line there own pockets with a larger tax base.
A major part of the problem is people with kids will do anything to get there kids away from the 3rd world garbage that has dominantly flooded and overloaded the NYC school system. (happened in Los Angelos 10 years ago).
These people flee and try to make ends meet, some rent but in the end most houses get run down by graduation day and bought under-handid by some "shark" (moonlighting as a parent of 6 with extended family crying "Rottin Timbers")
Next thing you know three 5500 sq ugly building's are going up on a single 1 house lot.
Now you have 9 family's (now renters) putting 10-18 more kids in the school.
The Great Neck democrats call it "looking to the future" I call it something else !!

I feel your pain, and felt it in your post. The NY Metro area is indeed getting more and more into trouble, and LI, especially Nassau County has had a great big dose in the last 10 years. Good for you and your neighbors fighting the fight that you feel strongly over. I too am fighting a fight in upstate NY - over industrial development in my small, rural, farming town!
I have always dispised politics and politicians, I don't think there is an honest one in the bunch, but for the first time in my 40 years I have figured out that it DOES matter who is in the local government, and the troops need to be strongly rallied to ensure the lesser of all evils is voted into office.
I have also learned here, that the local government IS NOT REQUIRED to act on the behalf of the residents it represents. The local government can do what it wants, regardless of the desires and opinions of the taxpayers-the folks that pay their salary. It scares the doo doo out of me, I have learned a hard lesson-that I DO need to pay attention to politics, I DO need to vote for the right people. I CAN NOT trust the local gov. to do what is right and what taxpayers want, and I DO have to FORCE them to do so.
Empathy and Sympathy here Joe L., stay strong!

I agree, Sea Cliff, especially if you like older homes.
