I called Verizon to set it up because someone at the Broadway Mall said Fios TV was in Westbury, and was looking forward to finally dumping Cablevision.
However when the lady put my address in she said only the internet and phone was available, and that I'd have to either get an 18 month Direct TV contract bundle (cant put up a dish anyway) or use Cable for my TV which would cost more.
She could give me any details on the contract in my town. So then I called the Village of Westbury, where the lady said "it has been discussed but we haven't done anyt---" and then she stopped herself and said she didn't know anything about it. Obviously the Village of Westbury is sitting on the contract, meanwhile because of their narrowminded-ness I have to continue to fork over $150 a month for these lousy Cablevision services, where I get pixelation on TV at least once a week, where it takes 2 minutes to load a weather radar loop (it took 1-2 seconds on the Fios stand at the mall), where I have outages on a monthly basis and the list goes on.. (like a lousy TV lineup with no BBC America,WGN...). The funny thing is the woman that I spoke with at the village has Fios TV but she doesn't LIVE here. Shows you who's working in the town, they dont have to deal with garbage they create because they don't live here and dont have to face the consequences.
I'm annoyed at both my village and Verizon, after all, why is it always the poor that have to pay more? C-Town is so expensive compared to other supermarkets like Stop and Shop!
I know there are other folks (mainly in the town of Brookhaven) getting the same run-around. these governments are in the pocket of Cablevision.
I am wondering if I should go to the next village hall meeting and state all the reason why if I could, I would move out of Westbury, this being the latest one...
I'm hoping with enough negative publicity the village will do something to make it a more desirable place to live.

To tell you the truth both services hve their pros and cons and I worked for cable for many years and as a contractor for even more.If you are having MONTHLY outages its YOUR wiring.Considering you can't put up a dish i'm guessing you live in an apartment or condo complex where they don't always allow it.There are so many factors that could be your reception problem.First check all your tv''s at their respective locations to see if all are having the same reception problems. If it is bad on channels 2-5 thats a bad connector on your line. If it's channels 17,18,19 only; then it was a low grade of wire used. Make sure all your connections are firmly tightened by hand and not loose as well. Thats the basics, anything else feel free to email me with the precise reception problem. Good luck

It's not my wiring, my neighbors are having the outages too. One guy even has his alarm hooked up to Opt.Voice, and everytime it goes down, the alarm goes off waking me up in the middle of the night!

Internet quality and most importantly speed is very important to many Long Islanders so cablevision better get their act together and quit running bs commercials all day long.

Yeah I can't stand that guy. That's CV's cocky attitude right there.

Maybe you should move to New Cassel. They have Fios
But really I have Cablevision and have none of those issues. Chances are there is something up with the wiring in your building.

Won't they play those same exact commercials on FiOS? Cablevision plays Verizon commercials, don't see why it would be any different.
GCGuy mentioned problems with the Verizon router....a lot of my friends had problems with it too, and specifically if you use any software that requires opening a port or setting a static IP.

Then it's definately the Village of Westbury holding it up, because isn't New cassel out of the Westbury Central Office?

anyone with a little knowledge of computers can open ports on the verizon router. i commend vz for providing good security enabled routers. you dont want your neighbor using your wireless( trust me on this one). If you want to run wide open, all you have to do is configure the router with security turned off.
