Well here is my answer, from the commission...
In order to provide cable television service, Verizon is required to have a franchise from the Town of Brookhaven. To my knowledge, Verizon has not yet applied to the Town for a franchise. Therefore, the service cannot legally be provided.
I trust this responds to your question. Please contact me if I can be of any further assistance.

In a return email, I asked him about the "truth" about Walsh's statement, in a post here, about Verizon not willing to wire Brookhaven or apply for a franchise.

This is the respone I got from Town supervisor race. I didn't get one from the Democrat. Who do you believe?
Thank you for contacting me about digital TV options for Brookhaven residents. The town is currently in negotiations with Verizon to allow them to wire the town for FIOS digital TV. The NYS Public Service Commission requires all digital and cable providers to have a franchise agreement with the Town before they can offer their digital TV services. Once an agreement is struck, Verizon will begin to upgrade its system to be able to provide FIOS service for our residents.
Sincerely,
Tim Mazzei (Running for Town Supervisor) Republican.

Thank you Mr. Mazzei, for your reply here.
As you can see by the various posts, in these, and other forums, we are, and have been VERY confused about "why", surrounding areas have FIOS, and FRUSTRATED.
Our strong, curiousity about this particular aspect of this situation, has been lacking in ANY clarity AND INTEREST, from our elected Town officials.
Could you PLEASE give us some insight into this situation ?
BELIEVE ME, we ALL want to know and understand this !
Thank you.

I live in Smithtown off of 454 in Stonebridge. I think were the only area in Smithtown without FIOS. I heard that the entire town needed to be wired per a contract, is this true? If so, any ideas about my community? Also, we have underground wiring. Will this affect us getting it? Thanks

Verizon was very interested in getting Lake Grove wired up and seemed to be very agressive in their pursuit of a franchise agreement with the village. We have had it available since October 2008. The only thing I can think of with Brookhaven is that they may need to wire up the whole town within a certain number of years under a franchise agreement and since the town is so big, they may not yet be ready to commit to that yet. Just a guess.
