When I saw this thread I had to respond, I am not from Long Island, I am from suburban Detroit, MI but have strong ties to LI. Any way I do this with one of the major department stores that we had in this area (Hudson's). It was "Hudson's" up to about 1997, then it was changed to Marshall Field's, then it was changed to Macy's in 2005. But I still call it Hudson's every time I talk about the department store.

Old timers, as well as the official maps, still refer to Northern Boulevard (NY Route 25A) in Nassau County as The North Hempstead Turnpike.

Actually Northern Boulevard is kind of an old-timer word.

I believe it depends on what side of the county line you're on. It's definitely Northern Blvd in Queens and when I worked in Roslyn, the address was Northern Blvd.

Spanky's was in full swing in 1983 - I can vouch for that as I was a part of the drunken silliness. Back then, it was an alternative music club -- more DRE and college radio type music. I can't remember the name of the disco that was the front entrance when it wasn't Spanky's. errrrrrrrrrrrrrr
