Default Huntington Station Area

I'm thinking of moving to the Huntington area, I've been offered a job and trying to make my decision on whether or not to move. Anyone have any input on what the area is like? I'd be near Huntington station. Are there restaurants and bars around there, where I might be able to pick up a second job? any input appreciated, thanks!

Default For those who may not be familiar with Huntington Station

For those who may not be familiar with Huntington Station:

Huntington Station is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Huntington Station in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor and the Hamlet of Huntington; on the east by the Hamlet of Huntington and the Hamlet of Greenlawn; on the south by the Hamlet of South Huntington and the Hamlet of West Hills; and, on the west by the Hamlet of West Hills and the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor.

The Hamlet of Huntington Station has a different border than does the "Huntington Station, NY 11746" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Huntington Station and a place can have other than a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Huntington Station): places that have a "Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Huntington Station are in the Hamlet of Huntington, the Hamlet of South Huntington, the Hamlet of Greenlawn and the Hamlet of West Hills; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Huntington Station with a "Dix Hills, NY 11746" mailing address.

If you are considering south of Jericho Trnpk ,it's a great area. The area behind the Whitman Mall or the opposite side of Rte 110 are very nice areas. Horse country on the west side of Rte 110.

There are some very nice areas but the bad areas are worse than normal. You may want to check out which school district you will be in.

The Walt Whitman Mall is in the Hamlet of South Huntington ("Huntington Station, NY 11746" mailing address).

For those who may not be familiar with South Huntington:

South Huntington is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of South Huntington in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Huntington Station; on the east by the Hamlet of Dix Hills; on the south by the Hamlet of Dix Hills and the Hamlet of Melville; and, on the west by the Hamlet of West Hills.

South Huntington is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of South Huntington have a "Huntington Station, NY 11746", "Dix Hills, NY 11746" and "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address.

That would be the Hamlet of West Hills.

For those who may not be familiar with West Hills:

West Hills is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County, along the Huntington/Oyster Bay town line and Nassau/Suffolk county line.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of West Hills in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Cold Spring Harbor and the Hamlet of Huntington Station; on the east by the Hamlet of Huntington Station and Hamlet of South Huntington; on the south by the Hamlet of Melville; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Woodbury in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County (the Huntington/Oyster Bay town line and the Suffolk/Nassau county line).

West Hills is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of West Hills have a "Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724", "Huntington, NY 11743", "Huntington Station, NY 11746" and "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address.

South of Jericho is nice (SD#13, not the best but pretty good). Things get progressively worse north of Jericho (though there are nice patches--but you have to know where they are. Off Maplewood is good and some of the streets by the old library), hit rock bottom by the train station, and then improve as you get towards Huntington village. If you don't need easy parkway access, Huntington village (SD#3) is more of a fun area to live in.

I agree you can find some very nice parts of Huntington Station if you shop around. Huntington village has some nice neighborhoods and a very nice downtown that has a wide variety of restaurants. If you are looking for the best schools you might also want to look at Centerport, Greenlawn the eastern portion of Huntington Village which are in the Harborfields school district - one of the best in Suffolk.

For those who may not be familiar with Huntington (colloquially referred to as Huntington Village):
