Babylon village is a beautiful place to live. My wife works for a chiropractor on fire island ave. The only negative I know if is a lot of flooding south of montauk. Otherwise it's a great place to live.

Codfish Bob's is now called the Seabreeze Cafe (since @ 1985ish) and is located at the end of Fire Island Ave. near the Village dock, corner of FI and Yacht Club Rd. This place really summed up the flavor of the Village (although many of the snooty will never admit it) when many in the community still made their living from the Bay.
At one time Glen's dinnette competed with Harry and Joe's across the street (Bldg.'s burned down now a strip mall of stores), the Highway Diner (now Fortune Garden Chinese), the Pioneer Diner and other cheap and greasy breakfast and lunch spots. Now we have (at last count) 39 restaurants.
If you want pix of Codfish's visit the fall craft fair in Argyle Park (in September) there is at least one artist with water colors and I think some old photog's too.
B+B fishery is STILL on montauk Hwy. in Lindenhurst, and still good!
You may have been thinking of Babylon Fish and Clam which is next door to Codfish Bob's (errr.... Seabreeze). It is also still there and still good, they have an indoor restraurant now, but you can still get takeout at the window or sit on the deck with wiatress service.
The 6:07 is the best express in the AM with no stops between Babylon and Penn, this AM it was only a 51 minute ride. However, the 6:37 isn't bad either and you can be anywhere in Mahattan by 8AM if you take it.
Welcome to Babylon! You'll find lots of new comers and lifelong residents here as well. It is a great community, but it's changing, help us keep the good and get rid of the not so.... we hope make it your home, not just an investment. ENJOY !

Codfish Bob's
Thank you for the info - I grew up in Babylon and my Dad & sisters still live there. My Dad was good friends with the original owner (Bob Schmeltz aka "Codfish Bob" - through the years I have heard lots of stories from my Dad - he used to play for his softball team and Bob helped arrange my parents wedding back in the 50's. Recently, I have ressurected the bar with a Tribute Logo Tee Shirt that captures the feeling and good times had by all. (originally it was to be a gift for my Dad - but, I wanted to
share with all)
It will be marketed throughout Babylon in the next month or so.....
So - Cheers to all who were attached to this Babylon landmark in whatever capacity.

Well, I'll certainly try to find one. What a nice idea and I'll bet your Dad is thrilled.

You may want to check with the Babylon Historical Society for pictures of Cod Fish Bob's. Just a side note, his son was a bit less respected and was sometimes reffered to as blowfish.
