Default For those who may not be familiar with Elmont

Absolutely not: there are 3 cities on Long Island and Elmont is not one of them.

For those who may not be familiar with Elmont:

Elmont is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest part of the Town of Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County, along the Nassau/NYC (Queens County) line..

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Elmont in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Bellerose Terrace, the Village of Floral Park, the Village of South Floral Park and the Village of Stewart Manor; on the east by the Hamlet of Franklin Square; on the south by the Hamlet of North Valley Stream; and, on the west by New York City (the Nassau/Queens County line).

The Hamlet of Elmont has a different border than does the "Elmont, NY 11003" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have an "Elmont, NY 11003" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Elmont and a place can be in the Hamlet of Elmont and have other than an "Elmont, NY 11003" mailing address): places that have a "Elmont, NY 11003" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Elmont are in the Hamlet of Franklin Square; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Elmont that have a "Valley Stream, NY 11580" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

I grew up in Floral Park and my house was in the part of town close to the Elmont border. I also worked for the water company and our service territory covered all of Elmont. I wouldn't say its the worst but I certainly wouldn't make it my first pick when considering a place to live. Certain parts of Elmont have certainly changed and not for the better. Although in retrospect, there are areas that remain unchanged and are actually very nice, neatly landscaped, etc. You can see the homeowners have pride in their homes. As for the areas that have changed, I am not talking about the area around Belmont or near Queens. I actually just was in the area this past weekend. I drove down Linden Blvd from Queens into Elmont to Valley Stream for an appointment and then came back towards Floral Park down Elmont road and then took Dutch Broadway to Franklin Ave into Franklin Square. Lets just say IMO time does not appear to have been extremley kind to this area.

Now that's factual and unarguable.

Don't know if I should post here or start a new thread.
I would like to know if anyone has any pictures of Elmont they cann put on this site. I would love to see them. I lived off of Dutch Broadway and Nassau Street.
I have not been back in decades but would really love to see what has happened to my hometown.
(maybe this should go in pics of LI?)
Thanks!
