If you want a true starter home you can defiantely buy it.
If you want stainless steel, granite, ann the mod cons of a trade up or an expenisve home ; you cannot buy it for a start price.
I say get a true starter home, then trade up when you can. Dont go for the designer home with the designer price.
What happened to roughing it for a little while??

IMO its not worth living in a place you can't be 100% comfortable in.
Sorry to hear about your run-in with the hooker.

In the spirit fo full disclosure.
Middle Island has a CF too.
I wouldnt buy anywhere that there was a Compare Foods with the exception of South Bay Shore.
Compare Foods Supermarkets; Home
Supports my Farmingville AND Farmingdale theory too.
Seems like North Carolina is a growth market for them too.
As goes LI So goes NC
Go Tarheels.

That stuff happens everywhere, I know it does in my town. How many people are getting caught in the Latin King/MS-13 turf war on their front lawn? Not too many. C-Town, Compare, Associated....I think Freeport has all of them. 100% comfortable is a myth, and in my opinion, breathing a little easier on your rent/mortgage payments is worth knowing that Joe Indigent is smoking rocks under the train tracks on the other side of town. At one point or another in life, you have to deal with other people. If that means getting your old hi-fi stolen out of the garage once in awhile, so be it....if that's not something you can deal with I guess move out to the woods in Suffolk, I think it's nice out there too.
What are your friends still doing there if it's soooo bad anyway?

bad stuff does happen everywhere, that is true. I prefer the woods out in suffolk, that is for sure. Our friends are lifelong Freeporters, they have a house on a canal, family in the PD & they both have jobs for Freeport gov.
Oh and they have NO KIDS & a "smart house" including every form of home security known to man.
I personally don't like living in Lock Down, although my DH does like cameras.

Who the heck would list their home at $500 and not take $480??
Either they are really slow upstairs or are in big trouble financially; maybe refinanced a few years earlier when appreciation was lovely and now owe the bank so much that they can't make a profit.
You know folks were getting loans for 100% of the value of their homes and all.
That "buyer's market" line is some real estate sales foolishness.
Many folks are refinanced out! and aren't budging on their sales prices.
Then there are those ARM loans coming due and sending folks into foreclosure.
But lots of luck to them because I see empty homes for sale every where and all over the place.
Unless some of these folks have lotsa dough, they'll end up in foreclosure.

More of you Dang Yankee carpetbaggers infiltrating Dixie!
n 1978, the Peña family embarked on a journey which would lead to the formation of Compare Foods. That year the Peña family opened their first supermarket in Woodside, Queens. After the initial success of this first store, the family expanded in the supermarket business, eventually having stores in Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Manhattan.
With the experience of operating these stores, Eligio Peña had the vision of a supermarket chain that would provide quality products, exceptional service and low prices to the community. This new chain would be known as Compare Foods. After three years of working to make this dream a reality, the first Compare Foods opened it’s door to serve the community on October 1989 in Freeport, New York. The success with which the first store was met encouraged the family to open a sister store in Brentwood. Today, the Peña family operates stores in New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachussets, and North Carolina. Wherever Compare Foods has opened a new supermarket, the community has enthusiastically embraced it and has continued to give it its support.
Compare Foods works hard to better the communities which it serves. It sponsors and supports local groups such as churches, youth services and non-profit organizations. It constantly looks to make the neighborhood and its surrounding areas a better place to live.
