This is just going to have to be left up to the moderators.... it's clear that Walter is dead-set on bringing his geography lesson/maps to every thread. Even this thread (that he started).... Newsday printed a story about a person who was KILLED in a horrific accident and WG was more worried that they gave the wrong name of the town.... as if anyone cares about that when a life was lost and a family devastated.
It's up to the moderator to make a choice as to whether they want a 'sticky' thread for the information or whether to just leave things as they are.

There was no wrong name of the "town"; a hamlet (an unincorporated area) was mistakenly identified as a village (a municipal corporation).

I disagree. Real estate involves a lot of things, so should we bring up every single topic that COULD possibly be related in each thread?
We are often told by mods to keep to the original topic, and to me, discussing the geogpraphy when no one asked is not keeping to the original topic.

I thought it was perfectly understandable what Glad2BHere meant. Your criticism just comes off as tacky and makes you look bad. The word town is used interchangeably with hamlet. Usually when people are referring to a town they will mention ie: Town of Islip. I'm sorry if that goes against Article II:Section B in the Church of Geography, but not everything in life has to be so structured and rigid.
Glad2BHere also brings up another point. Real-Estate isn't just geography. It is economics, crime and other sociopolitical issues. When someone asks which town (yes i mean hamlet, but I am saying town (not to spite you)) has the best restaurants, am I going to mention crime statistics for that town just because crime rates can be associated with real estate? No. It is tacky, unhelpful and a waste to everyone's time.
I think the point being made here is that your posts when placed properly are very thoughtful and helpful to the people here, but everything has a time and a place and you need to learn that.

Calm down boys and girls! All this chatter about NOTHING. Walter is trying, with all good intentions, to supply information that enables us to have MORE information about an area, not less.
We have so much that should concern us... our families and kids, the economy, house values, the war(s), the election, our health and well-being. Why waste four pages on picking on Walter?
If you don't like the posting, simply take your mouse and pass it by. POSTING POLICE can wear thin as well.

While we understand that, there are many aspects of real estate we can post about in each thread but we all should be responding to the OP's question. And I believe that posting maps when the OP did not ask about geography, location or maps is not keeping with the rules of the forum and can distract from the original post.
Should we post school stats for each town if no one is asking about the schools in a town? Should we post demographics for each town if no one is asking about that in a particular thread? This is the point, that's all. Unless someone asks, geography/maps really have no bearing on the topic and should be reserved for occasions when it actually comes up in the discussion.
Someone recently started a thread about gas stations in Huntington. So does that automatically mean we should reply with:
a) posting maps about Huntington
b) posting school stats about Huntington
c) posting demographics about H
d) posting crime stats for H
e) answer the question
The answer is E. Simply answer the question the OP asked. Otherwise threads become longer than they need to be, and there are posts to pass up/sort thru that really don't even belong there in keeping with forum rules.

Folks, we're not the only ones being treated to Walter's geography lessons. He's posting the same stuff on other blogs. Looks to me like an obsession with "geographical correctness."

Okay. I will talk to Keeper (our other monitor) and see what she thinks. Maybe a "sticky" might be the way to go. Please don't get all upset about this, though. There are so many more terrible things to worry about.

I, for one, welcome Walter's posts. I find them very educational. I have seen a lot of posts on this board that annoy me but trying to censor each other is not the way to go.

As per my previous comment concerning Keeper's January DM to me and my DM reply to Keeper, a "sticky" is not the way to go.
