You do know theres a 2nd lot off Hallock thats empty every moning ...right?
I ride often....Port Jeff is a far cry from jammed.
Ronkonkoma is jammed.
Port Jeff is as useless and empty as Medford (even @ $4 a gallon).

Thanks, I get there early enough for the first parking lot.
Have to stay warm for the trains when they come in...and you know they don't come in till the LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT...ESPECIALLY IN THE SNOW AND COLD !

As someone who commuted for decades - glad that's finally over, just in time for the new increases - I have noticed quite an increase in lack of cleanliness.
Here I go, on my soapbox :
HOWEVER, why do commuters want to spend more money on extra cleaning, when all they have to do is not leave all their trash behind! That costs money, folks... There are so many slobs on the trains nowadays, it makes you wonder what their home looks like; or do they all have someone who cleans up after them? It seems that fewer people want to take responsibility for their own actions...

Yea the main lot is teeny. Its a token station.
Most of the Port Jeff rail parking is on Hallock and its always empty.
Ronkonkomas so packed its a mile walk to the trains
Gotta factor extra time for the trek.

My profesor in Stony told me the real reason is that towns like Smithtown and Port Jeff. saw what happened in Huntington when they electriced, and wanted no part of it(Racism). He said his dad worked for the mayor or something.

Yea... thats actually BS. Stony Brook University is more than diverse.
Out east on the North Shore the rail is closer to the water and has a lot of hills to navigate. I doesnt lend itself well to smooth higher speed travel.Sadly its been deemed as a losing investment to electrify from Huntington to Port. They could do it....but most likely wont.
They should just keep North and South for local and beef up the Main for Express.
All theyd need to do is tie in N-S Bus routes and it'd work very well.

This is why I won't jump on the bandwagon to extend express service to Brookhaven. You're asking all those north and south to give up their express lines and hop a bus to the main line.
Tough sell...

Unless youre in Huntington or Babylon
North and South Suffolk have no true Express.
Heres the easy sell .
75 Min from 112
70 Ronkonkoma.
55 Deer Park
45 Farmingdale
30 Hicksville
25 Mineola.
Or you could just take the 2 hour line on Port Jeff to go 50 miles.
Crooks
And yes it can be done provided the 3rd track is added

I think they could have done a better job communicating to passengers about the schedule changes for MLK yesterday. Usually, the LIRR is pretty good about stuff like this, but me and MANY others were waiting at my station yesterday for our regular train along the Long Beach line...which obviously never came. If there were only like 4-5 people waiting, I would have simply blamed myself, but there were quite a few long time commuters who simply were not aware.
Even if you go the mta web site, it's not 100 percent clear that Holiday schedule = Weekend schedule on MLK day.
