Alerts?
Cool thread. I use the Huntington line for the most part when traveling from Penn. Haven't been on the drunk train in a months .
I was wondering if anyone subscribe to the MTA alerts like I do? You receive email updates on whichever LIRR line, Metro North Line, subway, etc...you choose. It comes in handy in stead of finding out about delays as soon as you get to a station.

That is correct. The table is the % of people using public transportation as well as the overall average time of the commute, regardless the type of transportation.

I do as well, though I only have it going to my work e-mail address. They also have an option to receive text alerts.

I ride the Babylon Line everyday from Massapequa to Flatbush Ave. I have to admit, for the most part service on the Babylon line is pretty damn good and I always get a seat on the 7:01 express train. The one hour commute is tolerable. However, the proposed 26% fare hike is outrageous and we must do everything in our power to prevent the hike from getting approved.

I've been commuting from East Rockaway via the Long Beach line for a while now with little or no problems. There's usually plenty of seating and trains are rarely if ever delayed.
A couple of things, however, do annoy me about this line:
Some of trains are scheduled too close to one another. For example, in the moring rush there's an 8:15 and an 8:20 to Penn. In the evening, there's a 5:20 and a 5:23.
Additionally, I think the whole line should be be in Zone 4 instead of Zone 7.
Aside from that, the overall experience on the Long Beach line is a good one.

Hempstead Line
Well, after a month in GC, I'm learning a lot about the Hempstead line. It's not THAT bad but clearly it could be better.
1. The two morning express trains are great. They skip everything after Bellerose and we are in at about 850am every morning. No real complaints other than we could use one more of those in the morning.
2. The evening trains on the Hempstead line are a joke. They don't even have ONE express (skipping Hollis, Q. Village, etc) at night. It seems to take forever to get home (my stop is Nassau Blvd) and we are only 20 miles away. There has got to be something we could do to get at least ONE express. The poor people in Hempstead have almost an hour commute in the evening.
3. The only solution to the above problem is to take Merrilon Ave home. I live about an 9 min walk away so it's not too bad for me if I take that train, but many others aren't so fortunate.
Bottom line--Hempstead evening service needs to improve.

Hempstead....and youre complaining?
Are you crazy, you could walk to Queens and take a Subway.
Or hop on at Mineola or any of the other 60 stations in Nassau.
Hows about some express service for Brookhaven?
Hows aboyt electifiaction to at least 112?
2 hours from Port Jefferson is a crime.
No wonder Ronkonkoma is packed and the LIE is Jammed at exit 60 every morning.
Enough with the Nassau County Rail Road.
Hows about some love in Suffok?
Steve Levy where are you?

It's going to take THAT long, FOREVER, and NOTHING they do is going to change that.
As you probably know, EXPRESS SERVICE to Port Jefferson or Ronkonkoma means THREE HOURS PLUS...and on an average day !
