Patchogue, you should be proud
Hi there
I had to go to Patchogue today to buy an irish flag for my house. Wow, it was impossible to get parking. I drove thru main street ; nothing. Then drove around the parking lot behind the theartre ; and finally got one. When i was leaving, someone was waiting for me to pull out.
I know it was sidewalk sales day, but it was a great day.
Keep up the great work whatever you are doing

For those who may not be familiar with Patchogue
For those who may not be familiar with Patchogue:
Patchogue is a village (incorporated in 1893) in the southwest part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the south-center part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Patchogue in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Patchogue; on the east by the Hamlet of East Patchogue; on the south by the Great South Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Blue Point.
The Village of Patchogue has a different border than does the "Patchogue, NY 11772" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Patchogue, NY 11772" mailing address and not be in the Village of Patchogue and a place can have other than a "Patchogue, NY 11772" mailing address and be in the Village of Patchogue): places with a "Patchogue, NY 11772" mailing address that are not in the Village of Patchogue are in the Hamlet of Blue Point, the Hamlet of North Patchogue, the Hamlet of East Patchogue, the Hamlet of North Bellport and the Village of Bellport; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Patchogue with a "Blue Point, NY 11715" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

I have major respect for Paul Pontieri. Mr. Pontieri was my assistant principal in high school and managed to be a major part of fixing up Bellport High School while I was there. He left Bellport in 2003 and it hasn't been the same since.
As for Patchogue Village, they need to fix up several sections still:
- Main Street from 112 to Maple
- Four Corners
- Main Street from West Avenue to Waverly Avenue
Once they do that, Patchogue Village's restoration will be pretty near to completion.

Dorothy -- is that a flag shop or an Irish shop where you purchased your flag? If it's a flag shop, would you DM me with the name & address, please?
Thanks!

I, too, drove through Patchogue a couple of weeks ago. I think that the transformation is astounding. I see it as a model for all Long Island villages (and hamlets, etc) who want to revitalize their downtowns.

It's far easier for a village, with its truly local gov't, to do this, versus a hamlet, that is governed on an at-large basis by the town it is in, especially if none of the members of that respective town board reside and/or own property in the hamlet.
