I Recently purchased a home in the town of Brookhaven with an in ground pool. The former owner never got a permit or CO for the pool. I spoke to a couple expiditors who tell me its going to cost $2500 to $4000 to get everything taken care of. I went to town hall and got all the forms and applications myself. Has anyone gone through this process on there own? I have the forms, the survey, the tax bills. The only thing I an having a problem with is construction plans for the pool. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Parker |

Save your time & pay the money for an expiditors. In your case, its worth hiring a expiditor who "knows the right people and process". Brookhaven Building Department is not a resident friendly branch of government.
Good luck! |

For something like this, I agree with kb.
By any chance, do you know who built the pool? Everything else I do myself. I've dealt with HDAC, ZBA and building department, which wasn't dreadful just time consuming. |

Know Idea who built the pool. It would just kill me to give someone else $2500 when I could probably get do it myself for $1000. Just need to find some to do the constuction plans.

Have you asked any neighbors if they know anything about who the pool builder was?
Figure on what the construction plans are going to cost -- they will probably have to be stamped. If you get someone from the building dept who is a PITA you might have to expose certain elements as well. Using an expediter in your case might make things flow more smoothly. I've gone for permits for myself and for clients. One of my friends saw me do this and figured -- no problem. She was her own worst enemy. She caused herself more grief! |

You guys are killing me!!! Anyone know a reasonable expeditor? I pretty much have everything but the plans. But I found someone from a pool company that will do them for $175.

You'll thank us when you do not have to prove that every metal piece in and around the pool is bonded. Go with a guy that does most of his work in Brookhaven.
