What do you think of East Norwich/Oyster Bay area?
We are are a young family with 2 preschool age children looking to move from Queens to LI. We have been looking in East Norwich/Oyster Bay area and would appreciate any good or bad opinions on moving there.
Things to consider: We can afford up to $950K, husband would be commuting to midtown, would like a decent yard, good schools and "normal" people (not super rich snobs) that are friendly/neighborly. Would also like decent shopping within a reasonable drive. It seems like a very nice area but parts of main street sometimes seem a little sketchy to me.

Stick to East Norwich.....beautiful area in parts. For that price, you can afford a great house over there. And.....real estate is Priced to Sit right now over there...relatively nothing has moved or gone in to contract this year. Sellers will start getting desperate - if they arent already.
My wife didnt particularly like it though because we live in the City and it seemed too far removed from the hustle bustle......you have to drive a bit to get there from any access point.
If that wasnt a problem for her, we probably would have moved there by now as I think parts of it are absolutely beautiful

train live
i lived in oyster bay
grew up there actually
just remember the train line is diesel..unless they have changed it
so its very slow commute to city
unless your husband wants to drive to syosset line every day
that is express train.
also, public schools are not the best...send to private if you can
afford...
great town and village though..very down to earth
nice people
good luck

The train from Oyster bay station is slow and few & far in between. I lived in Oyster bay and loved it. It is isolated and takes a while to get to places but that was part of the charm. For that kinda of money you can find something very nice in Oyster Bay near the Oyster Bay Cove border or even in Oyster Bay cove itself. Good luck!

I have been showing a customer around Oyster Bay the past few days. Seems like a very nice community with an active downtown area that has a kind of small town feel.
