I am renting a house that is listed as pre-foreclosure. The owner says that he has paid it to current. How can I know if he is telling me the truth. I see on one website that it does say pre-foreclosure. How long will it take for it to be removed or inactive? Thanks.

I believe that either Nassau or Suffolk COunty Landlords have to provide the tenant with the info that they are in foreclosure. I am pretty sure it is Suffolk. You can always go down to the clerk and pull the records and see for yourself.

In Nassau County it's in Mineola, in Suffolk it's in Riverhead

You can check with the county clerks office to a foreclosure action has been commenced. Or, if you know who the lender is (and you should since you jointly own the house) call and ask them. If it is, your only real recourse is to bring the loan up to date. This is a very serious situatiion, as it could wreck your credit and the bank could come after you personally for any deficiency. I suggest that you contact an attorney.
