Hi, I don't know if anyone can offer insight, but I originally started a forum about Sayville/Oakdale area. We really like the area, but now that my husband has landed a job with the city union we are thinking about Nassau instead. I dont know a thing about Nassau and we really fell in love with Sayville. Is there anything in Nassau like that? I've heard good things about Seaford, Wantaugh, Bellmore and Great Neck. We are looking to buy a house no more than 450K, we have 2 girls so of course safety, schools and "family" atmosphere is crucial. Would love to hear from anyone.
Thanks

You will not find anything for $450K in Great Neck; as a matter of fact, even double that amount won't buy you anything that wonderful.

I have heard that Seaford is a lovely area, and definitely worth checking out. I don't know much about the other two areas.

Roslyn has a nice little village , but I don't think that you can buy a house there for that money. They do have condos , though.

All of the towns in that corridor are fairly close - Merrick, Bellmore, Seaford, Wantagh, etc. and you can't go wrong with any of them. Merrick and Bellmore have the better schools of the lot.

As other posters have stated Great neck is completely out of the question at $450,000. Any of the south shore communities mentioned above, Merrick, bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford as well as Massapequa and Masssapequa Park should be good areas to check out, have homes in the price range your looking for, safe and has good schools.

All those towns are nice. I would say that Wantagh is known for having a great school district, blue ribbon schools etc...

South bellmore has JFK HS which is highly rated too...

Massapequa comes from an old indian word meaning "nearby the mall".
