Default Port Jefferson

Hello All! I will be working near tanger outlets in riverhead very soon. I would like to purchase a small apartment nearby- how is the Port Jeff area? Any other good areas nearby that aren't terribly expensive? how about Blue Point?

THANKS!!!

By purchasing an apartment you probably mean a co-op or condo, there are plenty of those between Riverhead & Port Jefferson. You need to be extremely aware of co-op fees & common charges. Often the price of the unit is very low but the fees can sometimes make it more expensive than owning a small house.
Port Jefferson is a lovely, walkable, touristy type of town. Blue pint doesn't have a "town" area, but Sayville does. Are you looking for a main street vibe?
In today's Long Island Real estate market,I'd suggest you rent first to try out the area before you buy. IMO co-ops & condos are going to take a major beating value-wise over the next 3-5 years.

Port Jeff is kind of far from Riverhead for a daily commute, I would say.

Port Jeff station is bad though, alot of illegals and homeless, but the village itself is nice. There's a bus that goes out to Riverhead from there too, the S62, it's about a 45 minute ride to Riverhead.
I would recommend Ridge, Selden, Holbrook, or Lake Ronkonkoma though, just because Port Jeff is too crowded and touristy and there's more pines near those towns (esp Ridge). But if you are a "city" person Port Jeff will be better for you, since places like Ridge may be too piney for ya.

There are alot of nice co-ops and apartments in port jeff. Port Jefferson Station is not all bad. The area by the train station is but there are alot of nice areas. Ridge isn't very nice at all. However, since you'll be working near the outlets I'd look for something closer out there. Maybe the Wading River area. I can't remember the name of the condo/apartment complex off of 25A but I believe there's a restaurant named Giorgios or something like that there.

Good luck!

Wow "pooh" that's a pretty harsh comment. Do you live in Ridge? Do tell us why you are 100% sure "Ridge isn't very nice at all?"
